Chapter 13 Class X

The document is a 10 question practice exam for a class 10 chapter on magnetism and electricity. It covers key concepts like magnetic field lines, properties of permanent and electromagnets, magnetic fields produced by current carrying coils and loops, Fleming's left hand rule, factors affecting magnetic field strength, force on current carrying conductors in magnetic fields, features of domestic electric circuits, induction of current in coils, and operation of electric fuses. Students are asked to define, compare, state rules, draw diagrams, explain concepts, and apply principles related to these topics.

Question Paper

25.12.2017
Class X 30 marks
Chapter 13 45 minutes
Q1 What do you mean by Magnetic Field Lines? What is the S.I. unit of magnetic field?
Write 4 Properties of magnetic field lines? (4)
Q2 Write two difference between permanent magnet and Electromagnet. (2)

Q3 Compare the pattern of the field produced in case of a current carrying solenoid with
the magnetic field of a bar magnet. (3)

Q4 A current through a horizontal power line flows in east to west direction. What is the
direction of magnetic field at a point directly below it and at a point directly above it?
Name the rule you have applied in this case. (3)

Q5 State Fleming’s right hand rule. (2)

Q6 How will the magnetic field produced in a current carrying circular coil change if we
(i) Increase the value of current.
(ii) Increase the distance from the coil.
(iii) Increase the number of turns of the coil? (3)

Q7 State the rule to determine the direction of force experienced by a current carrying
conductor in a magnetic field. How will this force get affected on:
(i) double the magnitude of current?
(ii) Reserving the direction of current flow? (3)

Q8 List four important features of domestic electric circuit. Draw a diagram of common
domestic circuit showing live, neutral and earth wires. (4)

Q9 Explain two different ways to induce current in a coil. Also write definition of the rule
which determines direction of induced current. (3)

Q10 An electric fuse of rating 3 A is connected in a circuit in which an electric iron of power
1.5 kilo watt is connected which operates at20 V. What would happen? Explain. (3)
