LAKSHADWEEP ISLAND

India’s smallest Union Territory Lakshadweep is an archipelago consisting of 36 islands with an


area of 32 sq km. The name Lakshadweep in Malyalam & Sanskrit means a hundred thousand
islands.

Language – The languages spoken in Lakshadweep are Malyalam and Mahl.

Food – Lakshadweep food comprises of coconut and sea fish.

Capital - KAVARATHI is the Capital.

Dress code - the men wear lungi and the younger generation wears a shirts. the women of
lakshadweep wear kachi, a rectangular piece of cloth, enveloping a woman from the waist, is
tucked into the waistband of silver thread

Occupation - coconut cultivation, fishing and coir twisting is the main occupation of the people
of the Lakshadweep islands.

Climate - The beautiful islands of Lakshadweep, experiences a tropical climate. its summer
temperature varying from 22 to 35 degree centigrade. During winters, the temperature
ranges between 20 to 32 degree centigrade.
