Crime Rate and Pattern Analysis: Using Data Mining Models and Techniques

This document discusses using data mining models and techniques to analyze Indian crime statistics and patterns. It aims to analyze major crime categories like theft, robbery, and domestic violence to find patterns in crimes committed. For example, analyzing women harassment data could reveal locations or times of day where incidents are more prominent, helping improve security. The literature survey lists several references on using big data to fight cybercrime and identifying crime patterns, though more literature is still needed on this topic.

Intodction
A criminal act can encompass a wide range of activities, from civil infractions such
as illegal parking to internationally organized mass murder such as the 9/11 attacks.
The dataset generate because of this is huge. Whatever data when organised and
looked closely generates interestng pattern. The aim of this project is to analyse the
Indian crime statistic to try and find out the pattern in the crimes commited. Major
categories of data can be analysed, namely – civil case like theft, robery, domestic
violence against women and women harrasment.

The kind of pattern generated could give us a overview of the crime rate and detail.
For example - The dataset of women harrasment, when analysed, can give us the
location where it’s occurence is prominent or maybe the time of the day in which the
situation is hightened. Such analysis can help us keep a better secuirty at that place on
that particular time.

Literature Survey

This is a fairly new topic and a lot of literature is not present on it. The once that I
reffered to, to get a gist of the idea are listed below:
