SMK TROPICANA

English Fun Camp Report

Students learn English in fun-filled camp

Initiated by the English Language Department from Selangor State of Education and
organised by the English Panel of SMK Tropicana for about 180 students from form 1
classes.

They enjoyed the activities especially station activities

With the help of about 420 native-English speaking students from 11 English School
Foundation schools, international schools and two universities, an English-rich environment
was created in the Camp where participants were motivated to use English through a wide
range of fun-filled, language-rich activities.

The Camp programme, designed by a team led by Dr Joseph Hung of the Chinese University
of Hong Kong, included language games, songs, art and craft, storytelling, action rhymes,
and a talent show that provided a relaxing and support language learning environment to the
campers.

The primary objective of the Camp was to help Primary Four students overcome the
psychological barrier to speaking and using English through two days of lively and light-
hearted activities. The camp also provided a valuable opportunity to develop the leadership
potential of secondary school students.
