~ ss Y MELOD MAKERS SALLY GOLDING LUCILLE LANDERSDedicated To all classroom teachers who share their love for music with children: To Peter J. Wilhousky, Director, Bureau of Music, Board of Education, City of New York; to Raymond Le Mieux, Assistant Director, Bureau of Music, Board of Education, City of New York; to the Music Supervisors of the Music Bureau; and to all the administrators who make it possible for children to lead enriched lives through music. A\bout the A\uthors MELODY MAKERS represents the collaborated efforts of a music supervisor, Sally Golding, and an elementary classroom teacher, Lucille Landers. Sally Golding, a Music Supervisor with the New York City Board of Education, is a graduate of the Julliard School of Music and has studied further at New York University and Hunter College. Mrs. Golding has the responsibility of helping and guiding teachers in the classroom musie program. ‘Through demonstrations, workshops, in-service courses, and classroom activities, Mrs. Golding has been a source of great inspiration to countless numbers of teachers and children. Her wealth of experi- ‘ence and knowledge of the total musie program bring to MELODY MAKERS a pra ‘of procedures and techniques which have heen successfully used in actual classroom ical presentation Lucille Landers is a fourth grade teacher in the New York City Public Schools. She is a graduate of Brooklyn College and has done graduate work at The City College of New York. Her ere: approach to music education has been widely recognized and acclaimed. As a classroom teacher, Mrs, Landers brings to MELODY MAKERS an understanding and knowledge of children and the total school program. Thus, the collaboration of Music Specialist and Classroom Teacher creates a publi- cation “in tune” with contemporary curriculum trends. MELODY MAKERS is written with the classroom teacher and children in mind. It is the hope of the authors that this book will re-emphasize the fact that classroom teachers do, indeed, have a large part to play in the development of a school music program. It is also their hope that MELODY MAKERS will encourage and guide children to more satisfying and enjoyable music making,* FOPHONE FINGERING CHART ¢* sone ure = ronert + reconoee ‘Where there is only one diagram for a note, the fingering is identical for all the instruments.
