Ecd Final PJT Report

This project report summarizes the design and construction of a function generator. It was submitted by three students - Adnan Khan, Zainuddin Khan, and Sheriyar Iqbal - to their instructor Engr. Jamshed Ur Rehman. The report acknowledges the instructor's guidance. It describes how a function generator produces repetitive or single-shot waveforms like sine, square, and triangle waves. The working and block diagram explain how different components like the oscillator, zero-level detector, and integrator combine to generate the output waveforms. Test results on an oscilloscope verified the circuit was functioning as intended.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

This project is a golden opportunity for learning and self-development. We

consider ourselves to be lucky and honored to have so many wonderful people lead
us through in completion of this project.

Our grateful thanks to Mr. Jamshed Ur Rehman, teacher of Electronic

Circuit Design, who spared his time to guide and keep us on the correct path. a
humble ‘Thank You’ Sir.
DESCRIPTION

A function generator is a piece of electronic test equipment or software used to generate

electrical waveforms. These waveforms can be either repetitive, or single-shot in which case
some kind of triggering source is required (internal or external).

WORKING

The frequency of the sinusoidal oscillator is controlled by the selection of any two of ten
capacitor (c1 through c10) in the oscillator feedback circuit .these capacitor produce the five
frequency ranges indicated on the front panel switches, which are multiplication factors for the
setting of the frequency dial. the adjustment of the frequency within each range is accomplished
by varying resistors R8 & R9 in the feedback circuit of the oscillator.

The integrator time constant is adjusted in step with the frequency by selection of the appropriate
capacitor (c11 through c15) & adjustment of resistor R10 resistors R8, R9, R10 are
potentiometer that are ganged together so that they change resistance together as the frequency
dial is tuned.for example if the x1k switch is selected and the frequency dial is set at 5, the
resulting output frequency for any of the three types of waveform is 1khz x 5= 5khz
BLOCK DIAGRAM OF FUNCTION
GENERATOR
Block diagram description
The concept of this particular design is very simple. The oscillator produces a sinusoidal output
voltage that drives a zeros detector (comparator).which produce a square wave of the same
frequency as the oscillator output. The output of the level detector goes to an integrator. Which
produce a triangular output voltage also with a frequency equal to the oscillator output. The type
of output waveform is selected by the function switches on the front panel, the frequency is set
by the front panel rage switches and the frequency dial, and amplitude is set by the front panel
control knob.

Theory of Operation
R2and R3 establish the amplitude of the ramp voltage for the oscillator.R1 and C1 determine the
frequency of oscillation.R4 establishes the basic range of operation for the integrator circuit. C2
is used in integration of the triangle wave. R5 acts as an active filter.R6 is the parallel
combination of R4and R5. R7 and C4 act as an active filter. R8 establishes the basic range of
operation for the differentiator circuit. R9 maintains equal DC resistances in both of the op amp
input terminals.C4 reduces the gain at high-noise frequencies and yet minimize the effect on
normal circuit frequencies.C5 ensures that R9 will be effectively bypassed for all usable circuit
frequencies. C3 is used in differentiation of the triangle wave.
