Iep Lesson Plan

This lesson plan focuses on teaching students to write effective introductions for comparison and contrast essays. The class will review the components of introductions and analyze examples of good and bad introductions. Students will then work with a partner to write their own introduction paragraphs for comparison or contrast topics, providing feedback to other pairs. The goal is for students to be able to independently write introductions for these types of essays. The teacher reflected that more time should have been allotted for student collaboration and discussion in the future.

they choose with their partner. Remind them the part of an
introduction paragraph.

them.

why they think their peer’s paragraph is a good example or not.

o Have students read comparison and contrast introduction paragraphs.
They will discuss why they think their peer’s paragraph is a good example
or not.
▪ Have them read your paragraph and have them tlak about their
thoughts on the paragraph like what they liked and what they could
do differently.
▪ Have them write their own paragraph introduction for a comparison
contrast essay.
▪ Have them share with the pair of best friends next to them.

● (4 min) Review
● Have students start to work on their own introductions for their essay.

Reflections: One thing I hadn’t thought too much about was the time spent
collaboration between best friends. Though I knew they would need that time to talk
about their introductions I wish I allotted more time on the lesson plan for this. The goal
for next time is to have a more realistic expectation of how much time is needed for
productive skills.
