Sekolah Tadika Jaya Datin Hajah Malai Rogayah Mid Year Examination - 2018 English Writing - Year 4 (R/Y)

Last week, the author and their friends took a ferry from Changi Point to Pulau Ubin island in Malaysia. When they arrived, they got a brochure and map from the information counter to guide them around the island. They could get around by foot, bicycle, or vehicle, and they chose to rent bicycles. The most interesting creatures they saw were mudskippers, which can breathe both in water and on land unlike other fish. The author spent the day exploring the island by bicycle, seeing rustic roads, rubber plantations, beaches, and mangroves, and had a great time at Pulau Ubin.

SEKOLAH TADIKA JAYA DATIN HAJAH MALAI ROGAYAH

MID YEAR EXAMINATION – 2018

ENGLISH
WRITING –YEAR 4 (R/Y)

Last week, my friends and I took a ferry from Changi Point to an island
called Pulau Ubin. The word ‘Pulau’ means ‘island’ in Malay.

When we reached our destination, we went to the information counter to

check out the locations of places on the island. We were given a small
brochure with a map of the island. Visitors have three ways of getting
around the island: on foot, by cycling or by hiring a small vehicle. We
rented bicycles and were soon on our way around the island, using the
map to guide us.

The most interesting creatures we saw on the island were the

mudskippers at a nearby mangrove swamp. We were amazed by these
special fish which came out their burrows in the mud. During our
Science lessons in school, our teacher had told us that besides using
their gills in water, these fish collect water in their mouths to breathe on
land, something that other fish cannot do. We could see them moving
around in the mud.

We spent rest of the day pedalling our bicycles on rustic roads under
swaying coconut palms, exploring shady trails in overgrown rubber
plantations as well as checking out secluded beaches and flourishing
mangroves. We had a great time at Pulau Ubin.
