Solo Instrumental Competition Rules

The instrumental competitions are only for the students of Bosco Academy of Music, Tura who are
studying music at the Academy. All the academy students are eligible to enter the competition.
Applicants may be from 4 years of age to maximum of 14 years.

Contestants must abide by all competition requirements or be disqualified.

This is a solo competition and is not open to ensembles (duets, trios, quartets)

Applicants must prepare one piece learning at the academy or piece of equal standard, with or without
accompaniment in its original form (with no cuts) that is a maximum of five minutes in length when
played in its entirety.

During the competition, the accompanist should limit lengthy introductory accompaniment to several
lead-in measures. Our judges are only interested in the evaluation of the applicant's skills. However, the
piece, when played in its entirety must be under 5 minutes

Applicants are not required to memorize their competition piece.

Each applicant may compete on only one instrument.

Applicants must be able to perform their piece at the time of the competition at a level which is suitable
for performance for the competition.

Applicants must supply their own accompanist for the competition if required.

Applicant must supply four copies of their performance piece with each measure numbered.

This will enable the judges to provide a detailed evaluation.


Contestants will be judged on a scale of 1-100 points in the following categories:

• Dynamics

• Expression/interpretation/artistry

• Phrasing

• Poise/stage presence

• Rhythm

• Technique

Awards
Only the top winners from different instruments will receive a scholarship for one year of their monthly
fees: First place, Rs.12000; second place, Rs.9600; third place, Rs.7200 and Rs.6000 respectively.
