PALS - Peer-Assisted Learning Strategy - 1

PALS is a peer-mediated tutoring program that pairs higher-performing students with lower-performing students to complete research-based reading and math activities. Students take turns in the roles of "coach" and "learner" to provide structured practice time and increase opportunities for all students to respond. PALS has been shown to benefit low achievers, English language learners, students with disabilities, and all students from kindergarten through 6th grade by increasing practice time, peer interactions, and opportunities for lower-achieving students to take on teaching roles.

Overview of Published Program
Reading Math
K-PALS Kindergarten
- Focus: phonemic awareness, letter-sound - Focus: number recognition, number
recognition, sight word reading, decoding concepts, development of a mental number
- 20-30 minutes per day line representation, numerical value, early
- 3-4 days per week concepts of addition and subtraction
1st Grade - 20-25 minutes per day
- Focus: realize words are made of letters, - 2 days per week
