CAD Drafting Requirements

1. Drawing Scale
All drawings are to be drawn FULL SIZE. Scaled drawings are unacceptable. Scaling is to take place utilizing the model space paper functionality and shall be one of the
following scales:

1:1 1:2 1 : 2.5 1:5


1 : 10 1 : 20 1 : 25 1 : 50
1 : 100 1 : 200 1 : 250 1 : 500
1 : 1000

2. Drawing Units
All drawings are to be accurate to the nearest millimeter for dimensions and to the nearest second for angles. To ensure a standard for the overall production of CAD
drawings, the Drawing Units should be set as shown in fig. 1.

3. Text Style
The default Text style shall be the ROMANS, ROMAND and ROMANT standard font. To ensure a standard for the overall production of CAD drawings, the Text Style
Manager should be set to the following and minimum text height for all drawings is to be as shown below:

The default Text Style for Process Flow and Instrumentation Diagram shall be the Arial standard font. To ensure a standard for the overall production of Cad drawings,
the Text Style Manager should be set to the following:

4. Dimension Format
To ensure a standard for the overall production of Cad drawings, the Dimension Style Manager should be set to the following:

Styles Standard

(create a new style if Styles 'Standard' is not shown)


Step 1: From the Dimension menu, choose Style.
Step 2: In the Dimension Style Manager, choose New.
Step 3: In the Create New Dimension Style, change the Copy of … to Standard.
Step 4: Choose Continue to exit.
Step 5: In the Modify Dimension Style dialog box, Lines and Arrows, change as shown in fig. 7.

Step 6: In the Modify Dimension Style dialog box, Text, change as shown in fig. 8.

Step 7: In the Modify Dimension Style dialog box, Fit, change as shown in fig. 9.

The 'Use overall scale of:' is base on the Title Block scale multiply by 10 (see fig. 9.).

Step 8: In the Modify Dimension Style dialog box, Primary Units, change as shown in fig. 10.

Step 9: Choose OK to exit.

Double click the 'Standard'. This will change the Current Dimstyle to Standard as shown in fig. 11.

Step 10: Choose Close to exit the Dimension Style Manager.

5. Line Type
Standard AutoCAD linetype (acad.lin) is to be used at all times. Acadiso.lin, Amgdt.lin, iges.lin and others linetypes are unacceptable. To ensure a standard for the
overall production of CAD drawings, the Linetype Manager should be set to the following as shown in fig. 12.

6. Line Colour and Plot Style


To ensure a standard for the overall production of CAD drawings, the Line Colour & Plot Style should be set to the following:

For 2D Mechanical / Piping Drawing:


Primary Line Black (colour 7) / Magenta (colour 6)
Secondary Line Colour 8
Centerline Red (colour 1)
Hidden line Cyan (colour 4)
Text Yellow (colour 2)

Plot Style (pen assignments)


Colour Lineweight
Primary Line Black (colour 7) 0.25 ~ 0.4 mm
Secondary Line Black (colour 7) 0.15 ~ 0.25 mm
Centerline Black (colour 7) 0.1 ~ 0.15 mm
Hidden line Black (colour 7) 0.1 ~ 0.2 mm
Text Black (colour 7) 0.2 mm
