Catalogue 2016
As we continuously doing our role as a frontline in fulfilling the mandates vested by Republic Act No. 7308 otherwise known as the Seed Industry
Development Act of 1992, the Bureau of Plant Industry has been instrumental in keeping the undertaking a legacy, alongside the transition in the
government. The National Seed Industry Council (NSIC) is our major key player in this line of duty. Every count down for a y ear that passed and for
a new horizon, marks a significant step and milestones for NSIC and for the whole BPI. Looking back over the past years since the law enactment,
much has been done on seed infrastructure, hence, we take pride as we are regarded one of the top performing countries worldwide in the seed
sector.
Our annual edition of Seed Catalogue is one initiative contributing to our outstanding performance in seed development. The international arena
looks at this kind of intervention a good practice in a country aiming advancement in the seed industry. Every year we have been loyal in providing
our stakeholders updated information on the registration work of NSIC, through printouts and other forms of media. Apart from that, we, in the seed
network at this time, consider this publication a significant aid to the government’s thrust of providing available and affordable food for the people.
This Seed Catalogue features the NSIC fruit of labor in CY 2016. This Catalogue highlights the 55 registered varieties, so to speak. The featured
commodities include rice (23), corn (10), peanut (1), pigeon pea (1), tomato (4), mussaenda (1), hibiscus (6), robusta coffee (3), tobacco (2), and
sweet potato (4).
We got another tick in our scorecard and another milestone to upkeep. With that, we extend our heartfelt thanks to all our key players in the
industry for the unending support. We do hold on to your continued commitment in the years to come. Again, I want to say Thank You.
