Handout 1:

Read the sentences and find out the special features of the sound /l/ and /h/

1. Be calm! Talk to your mother about what you like.


2. It’s my honor to spend an hour in a space ship.
3. What should I eat now? You should eat some salmon and yolk.
4. He is so honest that he becomes the heir of the company.
5. I would never forget the rhythm of the song he played yesterday.
Handout 2:

Put the following verbs in the suitable column

Dislike risk mean keep

Demand mention try expect

Offer hope refuse want

Count on stop agree remember

Infinitive Gerund Both

Notes: Some verbs go with both gerund and infinitive with different meanings

+ Stop to do something  pause to do another.

Eg. He stopped to have a rest because he felt tired.

+ Stop doing something: stop and don’t do that any more

Eg. He stopped smoking because it is dangerous.

+ Remember to do something: remember something you have to do

Eg. Remember to turn off the lights when you leave.

+ Remember doing something: remember something you did in the past

Eg. I’m sure I locked the door. I remembered locking it.

+try to do something: you do your best to do something

Eg. He tried to learn well for the exam

+ try doing something: you try something

Eg. Try eating some strange foods.


Handout 3

Put the correct form of the verbs in brackets.

1. I distinctly remember ………….. him. I gave him two dollars. (pay)

2. Do you like………..….. or shall we take a taxi? (walk)

3. They climbed over the wall without …………..…..by anyone. (see)

4. They expected …………..at the airport by the General Director. ( meet)
