This document discusses different types of software and the general structure of a computer system. It defines system software, application software, and operating software as the three main types of software. It also explains that a computer system generally includes input devices to provide data, output devices to display processed information, and storage devices like RAM and hard drives to temporarily or permanently hold information.

MIS Assignment 1
1. Types of Software
System Software: System software is a type of computer program that is designed
to run a computer's hardware and application programs. If we think of the computer system as a layered model, the system software is the interface between the hardware and user applications. Application software: An application is any program, or group of programs, that is designed for the end user. Applications software include such things as database programs, word processors, Web browsers and spreadsheets. Operating software: OS is a part of System Software that provides a software platform on top of which other programs, called application programs, can run. Eg: Windows
2. General Structure
Input: An input device is a piece of computer hardware equipment used to
provide data and control signals to an information processing system such as a computer or information appliance. Examples of input devices include keyboards, mouse, scanners, digital cameras and joysticks. Output: Any information that has been processed by and sent out from a computer or similar device is considered output. A simple example of output is anything you view on your computer monitor. Storage devices: A storage device is any hardware capable of holding information either temporarily or permanently. There are two types of storage devices used with computers: a primary storage device, such as RAM, and a secondary storage device, like a hard drive. Secondary storage can be removable, internal, or external storage.
