Mouse controls

Left + alt = rotate


Middle + alt = move
Right + alt / scroll = zoom in, zoom out

Save
File - project window – new – accept
File – save scene – under current project – scene – save as Maya ASCll – save

Open scene
File – set project – choose project – file – open scene

Side Toolbox

4 view mode: Move arrow over one view + click spacebar = change view
Isolate selected object

Change the Mode


Select object + right click to select vertex / vertex face / edge / object mode / etc…

Selection
Shift – select one by one
Shift + Control – select all

Shortcut keys
Select object
1- Regular unsmooth
2- Smooth version
3- Wiring also smooth version
4- Wire frame
5- Shaded [object]
6- Texture
7- Lighting

A key – frame all objects


F key – Focus on object
B key – smooth selection*
G key – Re-activate last used tool

Hold Key D – move pivot

X Key – snap to grid


V Key – snap to vertex
More shapes
Create – polygon primitives – more shapes

Change material & colour


Right click – assign fav material – material [Lambert] – right click – material attributes – change
colour
Right click – assign new material – select material – right click – material attributes – change
material name / colour

Edge Loop
Mesh tool – insert edge tool – drag on the side of the object to place the edge loop
Mesh tool – insert edge tool – click on the box at the side – [settings]

Select edge loop: Double click to select edge loop

Delete edge loop – command delete


Extrude
Select object face – edit mesh – extrude / [command + E]

Arrows – Move
Square – Scale
Circle – Rotate

Select face – extrude – to move 2 faces at the same time


Fill empty faces
1. Fill hole:
Edge mode – select edges – Mesh – fill hole

2. Append to polygon:
Mesh tools – append to polygon – click on all the edges of the object – press enter
[Click anti-clock wise, the direction of the arrows]
[If pressed on an empty space, press delete.]
3. Multi cut tool:
Mesh tool – multi cut tool – drag on the edges to 100%
[If pressed on an empty space, press delete.]

4. Fill hole and fix extrude:


Edit mesh – merge – click and drag on the “distance threshold”
Duplicate
Copy and paste = Command D
Duplicate with the same distance = Command D – move object – Shift D

Move pivot
Move pivot = Hold D Key – select move tool

X Key – snap to grid


V Key – snap to vertex

Move pivot and snap to grid = Hold D key + X key


Edit objects

Model break down – same surface

Resolution – number edge loop for curves,

Zero edge length – random lines


Clear zero edge length:
Mesh – clean up – make sure use default settings
[Turn on one action at a time]
UV editor

1. Planar projection

UV – planar

2. Cut edges to create shells

Select edges – UV – cut UV edges


Display – polygon – texture border edge

3. Move shells apart

Hold right click on editor – UV – double click on UVs – use W key to move
4. Unfold

Select edges – modify – unfold [command U]

5. Rotate shells

Hold right click on editor – UV – double click on UVs – use E key to rotate
6. Move + Sew

UV Editor – stitch together

7. Unfold

8. Rotate shells
Things to take note:

Planar – blue is the front; red is the back of the polygon; purple both front and back

Select face – UV editor – planar settings – select X/Y/Z axis – press apply – move faces in editor

If face is red in editor, unfold

U V meaning
V – vertical
U – Horizontal

Redo UV: UV – planar

Modify – layout
1k – small size props
2k – character modelling
4k – movies
UV EDITOR and HYPERSHADE
SOFTEN EDGE
CENTER PIVOT

Select group from outliner before centring pivot

Delete key fames


Shift – click – drag – select key frames – delete
