1.04 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Comply with Project Quality Program Requirements (see 1.02 above).

B. Manufacturer and Applicator/Installer Qualifications:


1. Manufacturer’s Qualifications: Minimum of 5 years experience in manufacturing of
specified materials/products, with record of successful in-service performance.
2. Applicator/Installer Qualifications: Engage applicator/installer with minimum 5 years
experience in installation of materials/products similar in material, design, and to
extent indicated for this Project.
a. Installer Certification: Obtain written certification from manufacturer, certifying
that installer is approved by, licensed, or certified by manufacturer for installation
of specified materials/products or systems.
b. Provide list of minimum 5 projects similar in nature and size to that of this Project,
where specified materials/products have been successfully installed/used.

C. Design Criteria: Structural supports for louvers and vents designed by manufacturer
to withstand positive and negative wind load of 30 pounds minimum per square foot.

1.05 SUBMITTALS

A. General: Refer to Section 01 33 00 - Submittal Procedures, for submittal requirements


and procedures.

B. Shop Drawings: Fully detailed Shop Drawings of louvers and vents, showing fabrication
and installation details.
1. Indicate louver and vent material, design and construction, with sections and
elevations. Indicate mullion locations methods of attachment to adjacent surfaces,
and elevations and details of blank-off panels

C. Design Criteria: Performance data for louvers and grilles, certifying compliance with
AMCA 500-L test procedures for pressure drop and water penetration performance.

D. Product Data: Manufacturer's performance data for louvers and vents, information on
materials and fabrication, coating and colors, and installation instructions.

E. Samples: Where louvers and vents are indicated to be factory finished, submit
manufacturer's standard color chips for selection of color and texture by Metro or its
designee.

1.06 DEFINITIONS (Not Used)

1.07 WORKSITE CONDITIONS AND COORDINATION

A. Coordinate Work of this Section with mechanical Work required for providing
combustion-air, air intake, and exhaust louvers and vents for mechanical equipment.

B. Coordinate fabrication and installation of louvers in door transoms with Section 08 11 13,
Hollow Metal Doors and Frames

C. Protect prefinished surfaces from damage and staining. Provide protective coating or
cover for louvers and vents during subsequent construction

PART 2 – PRODUCTS

2.01 ACCEPTABLE MANUFACTURERS

A. Available Manufacturers—Subject to compliance with specified requirements,


manufacturers offering products which may be incorporated in Work include, but are not
limited to, following:
1. Construction Specialties, Inc.
2. The Airolite Company
3. Greenheck Fan Corporation
4. Approved equivalent

2.02 LOUVERS—GENERAL

A. Construction: Welded or press locked.

B. Blade design: Storm proof and standard blade, 45 degrees or less straight and baffle,
unless otherwise indicated.

C. Concealed Mullions: Same material and finish as louvers.

D. Blade Supports: Provide for louvers over five feet wide and where required by
manufacturer.

2.03 STEEL LOUVERS

A. Louver Type: Stationary, heavy-duty type, manufactured of 16 gage galvanized steel, of


size, section profile, and configuration indicated, 4 inches deep. Include the furnishing of
all accessories, frame, sill, anchors, and fasteners as required for complete installation.

B. Sheet Steel Primer:


1. For plain and galvannealed sheet steel: Polymeric epoxy amine complying with
requirements of SSPC Paint 42; Rustbond by Carboline Company or approved
equivalent.

C. Bird Screen: Manufacturer's standard 1/2-inch wire mesh galvanized steel bird screen,
mounted in removable frame with finish specified for louvers.

D. Fasteners: Stainless steel or other appropriate tempered steel treated with non-
corrodible material as approved by Metro or its designee.

2.04 ALUMINUM LOUVERS

A. Material:
1. Extruded Aluminum: ASTM B221, alloy 6063-T5, profile as indicated, with frames
0.081 inch minimum thickness

B. Louver Type: Stationary, heavy-duty type, manufactured of 14 gage aluminum, of size,


section profile, and configuration indicated, 4 inches deep.
1. Include furnishing of accessories, frame, sill, anchors, and fasteners required for
complete installation.

C. Baked-Enamel Finish: Finish exposed aluminum surfaces after fabrication with satin
finish, 70 percent fluoropolymer thermo-setting baked coating system which meets or
exceeds requirements of AAMA 2605.
1. Minimum Thickness: 1 mil.
2. Color: Selected by Metro or its designee from manufacturer's standard color chart.

D. Bird Screen: Manufacturer's standard 1/2-inch mesh aluminum bird screen, mounted in
removable frame with finish specified for louvers.

E. Fasteners: Stainless steel, tempered aluminum, or other appropriate tempered steel


treated with non-corrodible material approved by Metro or its designee.

2.05 ELEVATOR VENTILATORS

A. Manufacturer: Provide units of type, size and construction shown on reviewed and
accepted Shop Drawings, manufactured by one of following:
1. The Airolite Company, LLC
2. The Bilco Company
3. Construction Specialties, Inc.
4. Approved equivalent.

B. Materials: Fabricate units from stainless steel or aluminum sheet and sections

C. Screens for Louvers in Elevator Shaft: 1/2 inch mesh aluminum with 0.080 inch
removable extruded aluminum frame.

2.06 BLANK-OFF PANELS

A. Single sheet anodized or painted as indicated for louvers larger than duct size.

B. Paint side visible to public same color as louver, unless otherwise indicated.

2.07 SEALANTS

A. Specified in Section 07 92 00 – Joint Sealants.

2.08 ACCESSORIES

A. Fasteners: ASTM A193, Type 316 stainless steel; type required for concrete or
substrate.

B. Sills: Where required, provide and form of same material and finish as louver or vent.

2.09 FABRICATION

A. Units installed as part of skylight: Coordinate with skylight manufacturer.

B. Units installed as part of elevator hoistway and roof enclosure: Coordinate with stainless
steel fabricator.

C. Units installed in door transom: Coordinate with hollow metal door manufacturer.

2.10 ISOLATION COATING

A. Single-component, inert-type non-corrosive compound free of asbestors fibers, sulfur


components, and other deleterious impurities; VOC compliant.
1. Elasto-Deck B.T. as manufactured by Pacific Polymers, division of ITW, or equivalent
product acceptable to Metro or its designee.

PART 3 – EXECUTION

3.01 PREPARATION

A. Field verify Site dimensions affecting Work.


1. Ensure openings affecting Work are properly prepared and that flashings are
correctly located to divert moisture to exterior

B. Where aluminum is installed in contact with dissimilar metals, concrete, masonry, or


stucco, paint aluminum with specified isolation coating or separate with neoprene or
butyl tape.

3.02 INSTALLATION

A. Install louvers, including bird screen and accessories, where indicated, in accordance
with approved Shop Drawings and louver manufacturer's installation instructions and
recommendations.

B. Install louvers and vents plumb and level in prepared openings in accordance with
manufacturer's product data and reviewed and accepted shop drawings.

C. Separate aluminum from dissimilar metals, concrete, and masonry using specified
isolation coating

D. Attach louvers with stainless steel fasteners, at one-foot centers, at head, sill, and
jambs; seal perimeter of frame.

E. Completely seal around perimeters of louvers and vents with sealant and tape.

F. Upon completion of installation, ensure that exterior louvers and vents, provide rain
proof, leak proof service.
