ZEPA situada principalmente en el casco urbano de Zafra, municipio situado en el centro de la provincia de
Badajoz y cabeza de la comarca Zafra-Río Bodión. Este espacio se declara como ZEPA por las colonias de
cernícalo primilla que nidifican en algunos de los monumentos de esta ciudad (Convento de Santa Catalina,
Iglesia de la Candelaria, Parador Nacional, Plaza de Toros), declarada como Conjunto Histórico Artístico de
Interés Nacional desde diciembre de 1931.

4.2 Quality and importance


En este espacio se encuentran dos taxones del Anexo I de la Directiva aves, Falco naumanni y Ciconia
ciconia, en concentraciones importantes de reproducción. También es un importante refugio para otras
especies de aves migratorias asociadas a los medios urbanos, como Apus apus, Delichon urbica e Hirundo
rustica y otras residentes como Strix aluco y Tyto alba.
