A manufacturing company needs 250 units of a particular component every ye ar. The
company buys it at Rs. 30/unit. The order processing cost for this product is estimated
at Rs. 15 and the cost of carrying a part in stock comes to about Rs. 4/ year. The
company can manufacture the part internally. In that case, it saves 20% of the price of
the product. However, it estimates a set-up cost of Rs. 250 per production run. The
annual production rate would be 4800 units. The inventory holding cost remains
unchanged,
Determine the EOQ and the optimal number of orders placed in a year.
Determine the optimal production lot size and the average duration of production run.
Should the company make the component internally or continue to purchase it from
the supplier.

per month. Find the optimal ordering quantity, if stock outs are allowed and units can
be back ordered at the indicated shortage cost. If no stock outs are permitted, what
will company loose?

A company uses annually 24,000 units of a raw material which costs Rs. 1.25 / unit.
Placing each order costs Rs. 22.50 and the carrying cost is 5.4 % / year of the average
inventory. Find the economic lot size and the total inventory cost (including the cost of
the material).
Suppose the company works for 300 days a year and the procurement time is 12 days
and safety stock is 400 units, find the re-order point, the minimum, maximum and
average inventory,

The rate of arrival of customers at a public telephone booth follows Poisson
distribution, with an average time of 10 minutes between one customer and the next.
The duration of a phone call is assumed to follow exponential distribution with
mean 3 minutes.
What is the probability that a person arriving at the booth will have to
wait? (ii) The manager will in stall a second booth when he is convinced that an
arriving customer would expect waiting for atleast 3 minutes for his turn to make a call. By
how much time should the flow of arrival of customers (5) increase in order to justify
a second booth.

A company manufactures around 200 mopeds. Depending upon the availability of raw
material and other conditions, the daily production has been varying from 196 to
