Teaching Philosophy
I believe that communication is key.
It is important to demonstrate communication for, of, and between students. One of the most important aspects in a classroom is being able to communicate in ways that are beneficial to the students. Without communication, there is no teaching; there is no learning. Being a good teacher means being able to effectively teach and engage students through proper language and comprehension techniques.
I believe that all students learn in their own way.
Each student has the right to an education, and each student has their own learning style or preference. It is important to know how your students learn and what works best for them in order to provide a comfortable educational experience. Being a good teacher means adapting to the needs of every student and captivating their interest. As a teacher, I would gain their interest and motivation by incorporating their interests/hobbies into daily activities and lessons.
I believe that it takes a village.
Just like it takes a village to raise a child, it takes one to teach a child. My students are not going to learn everything from me: they will learn from their parents and family, their peers, other teachers and faculty, and even themselves. Being a good teacher is about giving the students and education, but also about teaching them things that others cannot. As a teacher, I will not expect to teach my students everything, but I hope to teach them everything they need to know to be happy and successful in their future endeavors.
I believe that how we learn affects how we teach.
As kids, we had our own learning styles as well, and I think that those preferences follow us into adulthood. As teachers, we teach in a way that is similar to how we learn, or what we learned from our own teachers. My teachers always taught me in ways that worked for them, but also allowed me to branch out on my own to find my own learning styles. As a teacher, I hope to teach my students in ways that will shape their personalities and personal growth, just like my teachers did for me.
I believe that there is always room for growth.
Nothing will ever be perfect, and that is okay. There is always the opportunity to make changes, adapt, and overcome. Overtime my educational philosophy may change, and that's okay too. That just means that I have grown and learned.
