Design Basis Report Fgs

The document provides the design basis for a proposed pre-engineered building for CEAT Speciality Tyres Ltd. in Ambernath, India. It outlines the design loads considered including dead load, live load, collateral load, and wind load. Standards and codes used are also specified, such as IS 875 for wind load calculation. The building dimensions and properties are presented to calculate wind forces according to IS 875. Design wind speed is determined to be 52.12 m/s based on location and building type. This results in a design wind pressure of 1.14 kN/m^2. Surface areas and coefficients are identified to calculate wind forces on structural members.

1. Preamble:
CEAT SPECIALITY TYRES LIMITED (CSTL) has proposed to build Pre-Engineered
Industrial Building for Finished Goods Storage (FGS).

2. Scope ofStructural Design Basis Report:

This design basis report is intended to provide general guidelines for selection of materials,
design loads, load combinations and design philosophy for Pre Engineered Industrial Building.

3. Standards, Codes And Specifications:

The Pre-Engineered Building described in these calculations was designed
according to the latest U.S.A. Buildings and Design Codes that have been referred to
in the design:

1. The loads as described in the Design Summary Sheet have been applied on the
structure in accordance with:

MBMA "Metal Buildings Manufacturers Association" Low Rise Building Systems

Manual,2012 Edition.1300 Sumner Ave. Cleveland, Ohio 44115.

2. Wind calculation as per IS -875-I2015-III “Indian Standard Code for design loads for
Building & Structures (Wind load)”.

3. Seismic calculation as per 1893-2002 “Indian Standard Criteria for Earthquake

Resistance Design of Structures”

4. Hot rolled sections and built up components have been designed in accordance with:
Manual of Steel Construction- Allowable Stress Design, By American Institute of
Steel Construction, (AISC-2005).

3
4. Design Loads:
4.1. Dead Load:
Dead load for proposed industrial building comprises of self weight of structural members, weight of
sheeting, purlins and fixtures & fasteners.
Dead load on frame for sheeting, purlins, fixtures and fasteners = 0.15 kN/sq.m

Design dead load on frames = 0.15 kN/sq.m + Self weight

Tributary = 7.6m (Full loaded) – For gl. 1 to 16.
Dead load on frame = 7.6 x (0.15) = 1.14 kN/m (for grid line 1 to 16.)

4.2. Live Load:

Live load for proposed FGS building comprises of the load of man movement on roof for
maintenance purpose.
Design live load = 0.57 kN/sq.m

Live load applied on frame = 7.6 x 0.57 = 4.332 kN/m (for grid line 1 to 16)

4.3. Collateral Load:

Collateral load for proposed FGS building comprises of the load of Solar load + Sprinkler load +
Lighting load on rafter and purlin.
Solar load = 0.20 kN/sq.m (on south side of roof only);
Sprinkler Load = 0.15 kN/sq.m;
Lighting Load = 0.05kN/sq.m.
Total Collateral Load (on south side rafters) = 0.20+0.15+0.05 = 0.4 kN/sq.m
Total Collateral Load (on north side rafters) = 0.15+0.05 = 0.2 kN/sq.m

Collateral load applied on frame (south side) = 7.6 x 0.4 = 3.04 kN/m (for grid line 1 to 16)
Collateral load applied on frame (north side) = 7.6 x 0.2 = 1.52 kN/m (for grid line 1 to 16)

THIS DOCUMENT AND THE SUBJECT MATTER THEREOF ARE CONFIDENTIAL AND CONSTITUTES THE EXCLUSIVE PROPERTY OF GROUP SURYA PEB ENGINEERING AND
CONSTRUCTIONS.NEITHER THIS DOCUMENT NOR ITS SUBJECT MATTER MAY BEREPRODUCED WITHOUT THE EXPRESS PERMISSION OF “GROUP SURYA PEB ENGINEERING
AND CONSTRUCTIONS”.

4
4.4. Wind Load:
Wind load acting on structures is calculated as per IS: 875-2015. The coefficients and wind pressure
are calculated as per the provisions made by IS: 875-2015.
As per IS: 875-2015 (Part III Cl. 6) Design Wind Speed can be calculated as
Vz= Vb x k1 x k2 x k3 x k4
Where,
k1 = Risk Coefficient (As per Clause 6.1)
k1 = 1.0

k2 = Terrain, Height and Structure Size Factor (As per Clause 6.2.1)
k2 = Considering terrain category -2 – Open terrain with well scattered obstructions.
= 1.03 for 12.7m (eave height) (As per Clause 6.2.2)

k3 = Topography Factor (As per Clause 6.3)

k3 = 1.0 (for proposed warehouse building)

k4 = Importance Factor Cyclonic region (As per Clause 6.4)

k4 = 1.15 (for industrial building)

Vb= Basic Wind Speed, for Ambernath, Vb = 44 m/s.

Vz = 44 x 1 x 1.03 x 1 x 1.15 = 52.12 m/s

Design Wind Pressure as per IS:875 -2015 (Part III Cl. 7.2),
Pz = 0.6 x Vz2
Where Pz - Design Wind Pressure in N/m2 at a height z
Vz – Design Wind Velocity in m/s at a height z

Pz= 0.6 x 52.122 = 1630 N/m2 = 1.63 kN/m2

The design wind pressure Pd can be obtained as,

Pd = Kd x Ka x Kc x Pz.

5
Kd – wind directionality factor
Kd = 0.9 from clause 7.2.1

Ka – area averaging factor

Ka= 0.8 For Area > 100 m2 (From clause 7.2.2)
(Area = 7.6 (tributary) x 54.0 (width) = 410.4 m2) - For GL. 1 to 16. – For Rafter
(Area = 7.6 (tributary) x 11.6 (height) = 88.16 m2) - For GL. 1 to 16. – For Column
Ka = 0.82
Kc – combination Factor.
Kc = from 7.3.3.13 = 0.9

Pd = 0.9 x 0.82 x 0.9 x 1.63 = 1.08 Kn/m2.

And Pd = 0.7x Pz Kn/m2. Minimum criteria from clause 7.2

Pd = 0.7 x 1.63 = 1.14 Kn/m2

Therefore Pd = 1.14 kN/m2 > 1.08 Kn/m2

Wind Force on Building/Structure as per IS: 875-2015 (Part III Cl. 7.3.1)
F = (Cpe – Cpi) x A x Pd
Where, Cpe – External Pressure Coefficient
Cpi – Internal pressure Coefficient
A – Surface area of structural unit/cladding unit
Pd – Design wind pressure
