Case Study: Total Quality: Management (TQM)

This case study examines how a large ready mix concrete producer implemented Total Quality Management (TQM) to address problems of escalating costs and declining customer service across its seven locations. The company first conducted a TQM readiness assessment and communicated the new vision to employees. A steering committee was formed and management was trained. Corrective action teams then focused on five critical TQM areas to improve trucking operations. This resulted in restored reputation as preferred supplier, increased flexibility, cost reduction initiatives of $600,000, and $300,000 in savings. TQM helped the company address productivity issues during an economic downturn in the construction industry.
