1. INTRODUCTION

This project is on Airline Reservation System is the

automation of registration process of airline system. The
system is able to provide much information like
passenger’s information, criminal’s, list of all passengers
etc. The system also allows us to add records when a
passenger reserves a ticket. For data storage and retrieval
we use the file-handling facility of C Language. It enables
us to add any number of records in our database. But for
intrinsic nature of file handling, the retrieval process is
slow when we
Search a particular record in the database, because record
is searched sequentially.

1.1 About Project

Assistance is provided to the user at each and every step so
that no problem is faced during using it. Further the details
of every process and the user manuals attached in the report
make it very easy to understand. Every possible care has
been taken to make the software and the report clear,
simple and error free which makes it so special and one of
its kind.

1.3 Purpose of the project

Electronically handling of flight’s record to enhance the
accuracy, flexibility, reliability and to remove the human’s
error.

An airline provides air transport services for passengers,

generally with a recognized operating.

To provide accurate information about the addition, deletion and

modified movie’s record.

 To provide, efficient, accurate, reliable, fast, and

robust structure that can handle any number of passenger’s
transactions.
1.4 SCOPE OF THE PROJECT

This project on Airline Management System is the

automation of registration process of airlines system. The
system is able to provide much information like
passenger’s information, criminal’s, list of all passengers
etc.

The system also allows us to add records when a passenger

reserves a ticket.
Proposed System

The proposed system is computer based, user friendly, and

easy to maintain. It makes safely storing of records easy and
for a very long period of time. It would significantly
improve the quality of work in the airport. The time spent in
processing the above mentioned queries would significantly
reduce. The proposed system provides free, easy and
efficient management of the day-to-day activities of the
passenger’s in airline so that the manual work can be
reduced and even minute details can be accessed easily.
FEASIBILITY STUDY

A feasibility study is carried out to select the best system

that meets performance requirements.
Feasibility is the determination of whether or not a project is
worth doing. The process followed in making this
determination is called a feasibility study. This type of study
determines if a project can and should be taken.
Since the feasibility study may lead to the
commitment of large resources, it becomes necessary that it
should be conducted competently and that no fundamental
errors of judgment are made.
Depending on the results of the initial investigation,
the survey is expanded to a more detailed feasibility study.
Feasibility study is a test of system proposal according to its
workability, impact on the organization, ability to meet user
needs, and effective use of resources.
The objective of the feasibility study is not to solve the
problem but to acquire a sense of its scope .

Three key considerations are involved in the feasibility

analysis these are

1. Operational Feasibility
2. Technical Feasibility
3. Behavioral Feasibility

4.1.1 Operational Feasibility:

Operational analysis is the most frequently used

method for evaluating the effectiveness of a system.
More commonly known as cost/ benefit analysis, the
procedure is to determine the benefits and savings
that are expected from a system and compare them
with cost.

4.1.2 Technical Feasibility:

Technical Feasibility centers around the existing
computer system (hardware/ software) and also it
can support the modification.

In manual processing there are more chance of

errors are there, creating lot of complications, less
technical or logical.

Through proposed system we can set this process

in a very systematic pattern, which is more technical,
full proof, authentic, safe and reliable.

4.1.3 Behavior Feasibility:

Our proposed system works to minimize the human

errors, take less time, easy interaction with user, bug
free.

ER DIAGRAM

An entity-relationship (ER) diagram is a specialized graphic that

illustrates the interrelationships between entities in a database.
ER diagrams often use symbols to represent three different types
of information. Boxes are commonly used to represent entities.
Diamonds are normally used to represent relationships and ovals
are used to represent attributes. If the application is primarily a
database application, the entity-relationship approach can be used
effectively for modeling some parts of the problem. The main
focus in ER modeling is the Data Items in the system and the
relationship between them. It aims to create conceptual scheme
for the Data from the user’s perspective. The model thus created
is independent of any database model. The ER models are
frequently represented as ER diagram. Here we present the ER
diagram of the above mentioned project.

CON
Data Dictionary

A data dictionary is a collection of descriptions of

the data objects or items in a data model for the benefit of
programmers and others who need to refer to them. A first
step in analyzing a system of objects with which users
interact is to identify each object and its relationship to
other objects. This process is called data modeling and
results in a picture of object relationships. After each data
object or item is given a descriptive name, its relationship is
described (or it becomes part of some structure that
implicitly describes relationship), the type of data (such as
text or image or binary value) is described, possible
predefined values are listed, and a brief textual description
is provided. This collection can be organized for reference
into a book called a data dictionary.

SYSTEM DESIGN

This section describes the tools that were used to develop

and implement the system. These include the context
diagram, level zero, and one data flow diagram. These tools
helped in designing the system and coming up with the main
concept and logic of the system. Once information systems
development progressed to the design activities, the
researcher who was at the same time systems analyst and
programmer focused his attention on the question, "How
does the system do what it is supposed to do?"

System Design Objectives

The Airline Reservation System (ARS) is a software

application to assist an airline with transactions related to
making ticket reservations, which includes blocking,
reserving, canceling and rescheduling tickets. From the
viewpoint of the airlines the system provides the following1.

The system should minimize repetitive work done by the

system administrator and reservation clerks.2.

The system should maintain customer information in case of

emergency, e.g. flight cancellation due to inclement
weather.3.

The system should minimize the number of vacant seats on a

flight and maximize flight capacity utilization.4.

The system should reduce effort and frustration for travelers

in scheduling a trip, especially by reducing the search effort
for the flight they need to take.5.

The system should make it easy for travelers to check the

ticket status or make changes to their trip.

System Design

This was divided into Logical, conceptual and physical

design

Logical design

In this case the logical model of the system was developed

indicating all the vital steps the system development went
through. In this, the researcher used case tools like flow
charts and data flow diagrams. These models were vital in
the development of the system. This stage included the
graphical user interface design, input design in which the
user inputs in data, the output design which displays the
results of what a user will have entered, and database design
where data is stored for easy management. These designs
provided the technical blueprint from which the system was
built. A combination of layout tools such as hand sketches
and CASE tools were used to come up with both input and
output designs. Database design was based on the Relational
data model and the database management system employed
was MySQL.

Conceptual design

This was a description of the proposed system in terms of a

set of integrated ideas and concepts about what it should do,
behave, and look like, that will be understandable by the
users in the manner intended.
The process begun with identifying the entities required by
the users and then identifying all the important relationships that
exist between the entities. The result was the model of the user
interface that has been developed.

Physical design
This was the physical realization of logical design. Tables,
forms and reports were created and relationships defined
among these tables and security constrains set. During the
physical design the researcher translated the expected
schemas into actual database structures and at this time, he
had to map

Entities to tables

Relationship to foreign key constraints.
