Leson Plan

This lesson plan teaches 9th-12th grade students about C++ data types and converting binary numbers to decimal. Students will watch an instructional video that explains C++ data types and binary conversions. As they watch, students will fill out a graphic organizer to take notes. After the video, the teacher will review the organizer and provide additional examples for students to practice conversions at the board. Students will be assessed by turning in their completed graphic organizers.

Lesson Plan

C++ Data Types

Lesson Components Description

Course Level: Grade Level: 9-12

CSL1.3.2
Course Number: Compare and contrast level appropriate numeric and non-numeric
Description: data representation.

Learning Objective: The students will be able to distinguish different C++ data types and
will be able to convert binary numbers to decimal. The students will be
able to use this information in the foundation of their programs.

Learning Activities: The students will be watching a video from Teacher Tube showing the
different types of data types within the C++ programming language
and the math in converting binary numbers. While the students watch
the video, they will fill out a graphic organizer.

Video:
The students will watch the video and learn the primary syntax when
calling different data types when writing a program in C++ then seeing
how to convert and learn about binary numbers.

Graphic Organizer:
The students will fill out a graphic organizer over the two main focuses
of the video. The first page of the graphic organizer will be filled out
during the first half of the video. The second page will be filled out
throughout the other half of the video

Discussion:
Once the video is complete, I will go over the graphic organizer to
make sure everyone has the information. Once complete I will use the
board to go over examples that weren’t found in the video such as
larger binary conversions while giving the students the opportunity to
come up and complete the conversion in front of the class.

Assessment: The students will be assessed based on the completion of their graphic
organizer. At the end of the class I will have everyone turn in there
graphic organizer and I will grade them and return them the following
day.
