The lesson plan divides the class into two groups to create word maps distinguishing between the disciplines of social science and applied social science. The groups will write discipline names on colored strips of paper to post for each category. A presentation will then define social science and applied social science, providing examples of each. Students will discuss the relationship between the two fields and two learners will summarize the topic. As an assignment, students must bring an expandable envelope portfolio titled "Portfolio of a Social Scientist in the Making".
