3 Days Orangutan Journey

A “Palm Oil” FREE Journey!

Day 1 (L, D)
Airport – Kumai – Tanjung Puting National Park
Upon your arrival in Pangkalan Bun, you will be picked up by our tour guide part of the orangutan
journey team and taken to Kumai (a harbor town) to board on your private boat so – called Klotok. This
traditional wooden river boat is a boat about 15 m by 3 m with an upper deck for you to view the
rainforest and the beautiful national park as it glides by. You will meet your journey team includes a
boat captain (boat man), a captain assistant, and a chef.
About 2 hours from Kumai cruise up
Sekonyer river to Tanjung Puting
National Park, arrive at the first Camp
(TanjungHarapan) and trek the
rainforest for about 1 km to watch the
orangutans feeding at 3 PM. Take your
time and enjoy the feeding activity, take
pictures, your guide will explain you the
story of the camp and its resident
orangutans after the feeding time.
Board to the boat and witness the wildlife around the river banks, watch species of primates, and
certainly see groups of the endemic Proboscis monkey which can only found in the isolated areas of
Borneo. This will officially end your first day of the journey. Your evening is free time – dinner onboard,
rest, relax and get ready for tomorrow.
Day 2 (B, L, D)
Camp Pondok Tanggui – Camp Leakey

After breakfast onboard, cruise up Sekonyer river for about an hour to go to Camp 2 (Pondok Tanggui).
The fresh morning air, the forest panorama and the colorful birds will always be part of your daily start.
On arrival at Camp Pondok Tanggui, a light trekking takes you to the feeding platform where you can
enjoy the orangutans daily supplemental feeding starting by 9 in the morning. After the feeding activity,
your tour guide will lead you on an exploration trek around Camp Pondok Tanggui forest area.
“Board to the boat and continue for 1,5 hours upriver stream to the legendary Camp Leakey, the
biggest research center for the orangutans established in 1971.”
Your delicious lunch will be served on the boat along the way to get to Camp Leakey.

On arrival at Camp Leakey’s dock, you may


(sometimes) be welcomed by some of the
semi-wild orangutans resident at Camp
Leakey. Quite a large resident population of
orangutans live around Camp Leakey as
permanent residents. Your guide will explain
the history of the individuals you meet and
you will find it interesting to observe the
social interaction of the orangutan families
and individuals. Make sure that your camera
is always ready to shoot every moment.

Take a trek for about 1,5 kms to the feeding platform to watch the orangutans feeding starts by 2 PM in
Camp Leakey, along the way your tour guide will introduce you firsthand to the Borneo tropical
rainforest, one of the oldest tropical rainforests of the world. You have your chance to witness the
orangutans in their real habitat, and the diverse of flora and fauna over this area.
After the feeding activity, return to the boat and stream down the river.
Overnight on boat.
Day 3 (B)
River Cruise - Kumai - YAYORIN
After delicous breakfast onboard, starts
the final cruise downriver back to
Kumai Harbor.
We offer you an option to stop and
take a look around a local village. You
can also shop for local handicrafts in
the village. After the village, cruise
downstream for about 2 hours back to
Kumai Harbor.
Upon your arrival in Kumai harbor, you
will be taken for about 20 minutes driving to visit Kampung Konservasi YAYORIN (Yayasan Orangutan
Indonesia / Indonesian Orangutan Foundation) to be introduced to their project. You can also do the
tree donation supports their program.
Your journey officially ends.
