Chapter IV

PRESENTATION, ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA

This chapter deals with the presentation analysis and interpretation of the

data gathered in this research study. The various results are presented in the

succeeding tables with the corresponding discussions and explanations. It also

answers specific problems stated in previous chapter.

Table 1.a shows the profile of the Grade 12 students in terms of gender.

Consequently, the numbers of male and female students are almost the same. There

are 51.85% female and 48.15% male. It implies that the respondents have a good

combination of number of both genders in this study.

Table 2 shows the extent of self-concept of the Grade 12 students in Engracia L.

Valdomar National High School. The data reveals that the students have HIGH level

of self concept with a grand mean of 3.70 describe as often. In addition, the students

have HIGH level in terms of physical ability with a mean of 3.59. The students are

often do task flexibly (3.63), physically active doing different activities (3.85) and

clear sense of who they are (3.74). The Grade 12 students sometimes show their

confidence and engage in sports with a mean of 3.37.

Moreover, the students have also HIGH level of self-awareness with a mean of

3.99 describe as Often. The students are always knowledgeable of their weakness

(4.26) and strengths (4.33). Furthermore, they high level of understanding of their

selves (4.00), thinking that they already know their self fully (3.96), and their beliefs

about their self are changing too frequently (3.41).

On the other hand, the Grade 12 students have HIGH level of self-esteem with a

mean of 3.84. They often give their selves an incentives every time they got high

grades and happy to work together with their group to achieve a common goal with a

mean of 3.70 and 4.07 respectively. Consequently, they often confident to do any

task in every activity (3.81), look with the positive sides (3.89) and get along with

their peers (3.70).

Likewise, the Grade 12 students have only AVERAGE level in self concept in

terms of appearance with a mean of 3.38. The students often comfortable with their

self talking towards other people (3.74) and consider proper grooming when showing
up to other people (3.52). Along with, the students sometimes consider good

posture, easily got attractive with others, and love wearing fashioned accessories

with a mean of 3.22, 3.30, and 3.11 respectively.

Table 3 shows the level of academic performance of Grade 12 students in Lun in

Engracia L. Valdomar National High School. The data reveals that the students have

a VERY GOOD academic performance as evidence by a mean percentage of

87.00%. Furthermore, most of the students have outstanding academic performance

with a percentage of 40.74%, followed by the students with good academic

performance (33.33%) and good very academic performance (25.93%). Likewise, no

one got poor performance and at the same time no students with failed grades.

It is shown in Table 4 that there is relationship between the self-concept and

the academic performance of Grade 12 students of Engracia L. Valdomar National

High School as evidenced by a p-value of 0.046. A p-value smaller than 0.05

indicates the relationship between two variables is significant.

Moreover, the r value of .386 indicated that the relationship between the said

variables is MODERATE. The coefficient of variation or r-squared of 0.1490

suggested that 14.90% of academic performance of Grade 12 students were due to

their extent of self concept.
