Dansansoy

Is a popular Ilonggo Folk Song, sung even by non-Ilonggos. Dandansoy is one of


the folk songs featured in a dance medley used in the Bacolod MassKara Festival. In the
song, the singer bids farewell to a boy named Dansoy. I remember my mother singing
this song to me when I was a kid in Iloilo. I would ask her where Payao is but unfortunately,
she didn’t know. From then on, I thought Payao was a fictional place. Little did I know that
it’s a barangay in the town of Binalbagan which I only learned when I moved here in
Bacolod. Unfortunately, most people from Iloilo don’t know where Payao is.

Dandansuy Is Originated from Visayas it is in Hiligaynon, it is located in Iloilo at


Panay Island.

Usahay

Is a song for two lovers who didn't end up their love story happily, because one of
them have cheated, from the song we can say that it is a song of a person who regrets
her/his decision of loving a person who is not loyal to their partner in terms of relationship.

Usahay is Originated from Visayas, it is located in Cebu.

Matud Nila

Is a love song that expresses love against all odds. In the song, the point of view
expressed her love for someone she loves dearly even if other people might think that
she does not deserve the love and attention of her lover back. She yearns for her lover
to ignore what other say and to just believe in her deep love. She promises to persevere
until she earns her lover's feelings and love back.

"Matud Nila" is a classic Kundiman. Kundiman is the Filipino term of romantic


songs. These songs are used to serenade women as part of the phases of Traditional
Filipino courtship. Traditional courtship may also include writing of love letter for the
woman which is usually given through his trusted friend. This version of the song is by
Pilita Corales. The original version of this song is first sung by a man, a brilliant Kundiman
Composer, Ben Zubiri.

Pamulinawen

Is an Ilocano folk song. Some says it is the name of the girl in the song and some
says that it means stone hearted girl. Every first Sunday of February, Pamulinawen
Festival is celebrated in the Province of Laoag. The festival corresponds with the Feast
Day of Saint William the Hermit, which is the city’s Patron Saint. Pamulinawen is a very
beautiful stone that has a name “Dalumpinas.” It is as big as the heart. It is often compared
with a girl with good features who never had a boyfriend. It is a song about courtship and
love. It tells about a man who is courting a stone hearted girl.

Ti Ayat Ti Maysa Nga Ubing

The lyrics of a very popular Ilocano folksong say that an old man’s love is the
bitterest of all loves. Rather than glorify the resplendence of young love as the title “ Ti
Ayat ti Maysa nga Ubing” (The Love of Young One) would suggest, the folksong says that
an old man’s affection is “repugnantly acrid”

Sarung Banggi (Filipino Kundiman)

suitor pours out his emotions through a song, usually one which speaks of loneliness or
even lack of self-worth.
