Art Final Evaluation: Nikhil Kanabar 7H - 10 July 2012
During our time with Mrs Nicodemus, we printed off a satellite image of our homes
and stuck it down into our books on our first page. After being inspired by Joanne
Greenbaum, we then drew our map like a grid onto A3 sheets of paper. (Joanne
Greenbaum lived in New York where there is the grid system for the roads.) We then
covered our books with inspiring pieces of work that we could look back to and draw.
When we had Mr Buckeridge, we started to look at the major concepts of art. These
included the depth of art (using layering), the space between shapes, positive and
negative shapes and much more. We were introduced to microscopic and
macroscopic drawings. We looked at different artists in detail and how there art work
was presented. Again, we were inspired by the works of Joanne Greenbaum and
decided to do a project on layering. To do this, we used an A3 sheet of tracing on
which we drew on an inspiring piece of work, enlarged. We then cut out a copy it and
positioned it differently on the tracing paper. After that, we stuck down a silhouette of
another shape. Then, we cut out a linear outline of the silhouette and stuck that
down also in a different position. After the main criteria, we were allowed to go on
from there.
I loved Mr Buckeridge’s calm and soothing talks about the stars and how we see the
stars arranged as they were a million years ago due to time. Also, he used to
mention how images at the front hover and are centre of attention whereas the
shapes at the back are just a faint image for example when looking into a pond, you
eye goes to closest thing to you but it doesn’t wonder off anywhere else.
We could also study other subjects through art, for example, Religion and Society as
we learnt about art from various cultures, Geography and History to see where the
picture was painted or where it was inspired from and it could have a past and
present to it. Also, English is involved as you need words to express the concepts of
space and time.
I view art in this secondary school very different to that of my primary school, where
we sat and painted. I can see different ‘angles’ of art, which I thoroughly enjoyed
doing so. I feel some of my marks suggest this (A-) and I am aiming to improve. I
think art has been one of the most interesting subjects I have studied this year and I
am greatly influenced by it and will strive to excel at the subject.
