Half Time Tribal Tom Groove

The document describes a half time tom groove with a tribal feel that starts as a simple 16th note pattern and develops into a more complex rhythm by adding flams and Bonham style triplets. It provides the basic stickings for measures 1 and 2 and shows how to incorporate flams and triplets into the pattern. It also gives an example for ending the groove with an 8th note snare hit.

Half Time Tribal Tom Groove

By Alex Ribchester

In this weeks lesson we have got a half time tom groove with a tribal feel to it. It starts
off as a simple solid 16th note pattern that then develops into a more complex rhythm
as we add flams and some 16th note Bonham style triplets to the mix.

The first three exercises are the basic stickings for measures 1 &2:

Here we have included flams played between the floor tom and hi tom, as well as the
Bonham triplets from beat 3 in the second measure.

Here is an idea for getting out of the groove with a simple 8th note snare
on the '&' of beat 4.
