A   uniform   slab   of   mass   25000   kg   is

being   raised   as   shown.   Determine   all

the forces on the slab.
A   load   of   20   kg   is   supported   as   shown.
Assuming   the   pulley   to   be   ideal,
determine   the   length   of   CD   required   to
realize   the   equilibrium   configuration
shown. Also, determine the tension in the
cable CD.
A uniform 400kg drum is mounted on rollers at
A and B, as shown. Due to friction in the rollers
at B, a person of mass 80 kg has to move 700
mm   from   the   vertical   centreline   before   the
drum   starts   rolling.   Calculate   the   reaction
forces on the drum from the rollers at A and B.
A   pipe   of   26   mm   diameter   is
being bent in a machine with a
force   P   =   300N,   as   shown.
Calculate the reaction forces at
the bearings at A and B.
The   wheel   shown   supports   a   load   of
20kN. If the struts AB and CD are to be
loaded   only   axially,   determine     and   the
load in each strut.
Determine the forces acting at the frictionless contact points A and B when
P=100 N.
A 300 kg walkway is supported as
shown.   Calculate   all   the   reaction
forces at A and B on the walkway.
During   an   engine   test,   a
propeller   thrust   T   =   3000   N   is
generated   on   an   1800   kg
airplane,   as   shown   with   the
main wheels at B locked. The tail
wheel at A does not have brakes.
Calculate   the   normal   reactions
at   A   and   B   with   (a)   engine   off,
and (b) engine on.
Determine the moment M required to roll the 100 kg
cylinder out of the depression as shown. (Ans: M=50gb)

Determine the tension in the arm
AB  of the link  shown  when a 30
kg   suitcase   is   lifted   centrally   as
shown. (TAB=128.3 N)
A pole AB is supported at A by a ball and socket
joint and at B and two inextensible cables, as
shown. Determine the tension in the cables.
The shaft AB of mass 200 kg having a
ball   and   socket   joint   at   A   is   placed
against  a  frictionless   angular   corner
B, as shown. Determine the reactions
at B.
The   frame   OAB   is   supported   by   two
inextensible cables at A and B, and by a
ball   and   socket   joint   at   O,   as   shown.
Determine the location x of the load W for
equilibrium   at   the   configuration   shown,
and the tension in the cables.
A 50 kg ventilator window is kept open, as
shown. If a=0.8 m and b=1.2 m, determine
the force in the massless member CD.
An   inextensible   cable   restrains   the   arm   OA
which is mounted on a shaft, as shown. The shaft
is subjected to a torque of 40 Nm. Determine the
compression, bending moment and shear force at
the section B of the shaft.
Determine   the   tensions   in   the   two
inextensible cables  supporting the  loaded
beam as shown.
