Life of Pi
Life of Pi
1. In his introductory note Yann Martel says “this book was born as I
was hungry.” What sort of emotional nourishment might Life of Pi
have fed to its author?
It seems to me that Life of Pi is convenient look for Martel at the
struggle between God, symbolism and Science. I find it funny how
Martel often criticizes agnostic in the book, perhaps a feeling of
projection, only to conclude on a rather agnostics interpretation in
the end that God is the better”, albeit fictional story to the “dry,
yeast less” reality (there is no God), and the former should be
championed because “it makes no factual difference to you and I,
and you can’t prove the question either way.”
7. Pi sparks a lively debate when all three of his spiritual advisors try
to claim him. At the heart of this confrontation is Pi’s insistence
that accept an exclusively Hindu, Christian, or Muslim faith; he
can only be content with all three. What is Pi’s seeking that can he
cannot solely attained by his apparent contradiction?
He said that “Bapu Ghandi said that “all religions are true”. I just
wanted to love God. “To him, the Qur and. The Bible were similar
and that they had the same characters with different names and
all that, and that religion was about dignity and not about
depravity.
8. What do you make of Pi assertion that we are all in limbo, without
religion until some figure introduces us to God? Do you believe that
Pi’s piousness was a response to his father atheism.
Even Pi tried 3 different religions. He believed that there’s one
god. And also it make sense that this belief response his father’s
atheism.
10. How do the human beings in your world reflect the animal
behaviour observed by Pi? What do Pi’s strategies in dealing with
Richard Parker teach us about confronting the fearsome
creatures in our lives?
People are fighting most of the time with different matters. They
against with each idea. But the truth is people can’t live alone. We
need everybody to live and to survive. It is the same with the
thought of the Pi. Because people are close to each other, it’s so
easy to talk and talk about thins not just about them but also
about other people. And for this reason the stories spread more
and more to more people. And it may not be true most the time.
11. Besides the loss of his family and possessions what else did Pi
lose when the tsim tshon sang? What did he gain?
He cost his friend the animal
He gained maturity and he losses his normal life
He lose everything he once has but gained faith, trust, wit and the
courage to survive
12. Nearly everyone experiences a turning point that represents
the transition from youth to adulthood, Albeit seldom as
traumatic as Pi’s.
By make yourself courage
The experience of not being understood and accepted. The feeling
that as if I’m not belong; that I’m not supposed to be with them. Hi
taught me a lesson. It made me more mature and strong. That
was my life’s turning point; the time when I learnt to accept and
understand myself more than everyone can ever do.
14. Pi imagines that his brother would have teasingly called him
Noah. How does Pi’s voyage compare to the biblical story of Noah,
who was spared from the flood while God wash away the sinners.
Both of them have strong faith. Noah was saved from the flood, Pi
was saved from the sinking ship. Because of strong faith, he was
saved while the sinner are perished. Noah and Pi have similarities
in their voyages because like Noah, Pi also saved the animals.
