Life of Pi

Bullying involves unwanted aggressive behavior among school-aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. It is typically repeated over time. There are different types of bullying, including verbal (teasing, name-calling), social (exclusion, spreading rumors), and physical (hitting, stealing possessions). Bullying has serious negative impacts on both the victims and those who bully. To address it, the root causes for the bullying behavior must be understood, and social media/interactions should be used to build others up rather than tear them down. Staying positive and empowered can also help prevent bullying from occurring or continuing.

LIFE OF PI

1. In his introductory note Yann Martel says “this book was born as I
was hungry.” What sort of emotional nourishment might Life of Pi
have fed to its author?
 It seems to me that Life of Pi is convenient look for Martel at the
struggle between God, symbolism and Science. I find it funny how
Martel often criticizes agnostic in the book, perhaps a feeling of
projection, only to conclude on a rather agnostics interpretation in
the end that God is the better”, albeit fictional story to the “dry,
yeast less” reality (there is no God), and the former should be
championed because “it makes no factual difference to you and I,
and you can’t prove the question either way.”

2. Pondicherry is described as an anomaly, the former capital of

what was once French India. In terms of storytelling, what makes
this town a appropriate choice for Pi’s upbringing?
 Because it give him opportunity to be subject to animal behaviour
at the local zoo, which his father owned.

3. Yann Martel recalls that many Pondicherry residents provided

him with stories, but he was most intrigued by this tale because
Mr. Adirubasamy said it would make him believe in God. Did Pi’s
tale alter your beliefs about God?
 No

4. Early in the novel, we discovered that the narrator majored in

religious studies and zoology with particular interests in a
sixteenth-century kabbalist and the admirable three toed sloth.
In subsequent chapters, he explain the war in which religious and
zoos both steeped in illusion. Discuss some of the other ways in
which these two fields find unlikely compatibility.
 Martel said it best when he wrote, “ I know zoos are no longer in
people’s good quaces. Religion faces the same problems. Certain
allusions plague then both. “ The world often views rules,
restrictions, and self-restraint in a negative way because humans
desire a consequences free environment, which can never exist.
5. Pi’s will name, Piscine Molitor Patel was inspired by a Parisian
Swimming pool that “the gods would have delighted to swim in.”
The shortened form refers to the ration a circle’s circumference
divided by its diameter. What is the significance of pi’s unusual
name?
 Pi used the first 2 letters of Piscine to create new identity for
himself after getting mocked by his peers. Therefore, it was a way
to start a new after getting bullied by his name.

6. How would the novel’s flavour be different if Pi’s sole surviving

animal had been the zebra or Orange Juice? (We assume that if
the hyena had been the only surviving animal, Pi would not have
lied to tell, us his story.)
 The story would have lost it’s specialness. It would have made the
story very believable and I think that the alternate ending would
not have fit properly.
 In my opinion, it would be less thrilling and unique, we know that
if Pi survived with the zebra, there would be less happenings the
zebra would just sit there and wait for help, it would be boring f Pi
was with orange juice it would be a different kind of story about
friendship, the orang-utan might have stayed with Pi unlike
Richard Piker did at the end.

7. Pi sparks a lively debate when all three of his spiritual advisors try
to claim him. At the heart of this confrontation is Pi’s insistence
that accept an exclusively Hindu, Christian, or Muslim faith; he
can only be content with all three. What is Pi’s seeking that can he
cannot solely attained by his apparent contradiction?
 He said that “Bapu Ghandi said that “all religions are true”. I just
wanted to love God. “To him, the Qur and. The Bible were similar
and that they had the same characters with different names and
all that, and that religion was about dignity and not about
depravity.
8. What do you make of Pi assertion that we are all in limbo, without
religion until some figure introduces us to God? Do you believe that
Pi’s piousness was a response to his father atheism.
 Even Pi tried 3 different religions. He believed that there’s one
god. And also it make sense that this belief response his father’s
atheism.

9. Among Yann Martel’s gifts is a rich descriptive palette. Regarding

religion he observes the green element that represents islam and
the orange tones of Hinduism. What color would Christian be,
according to Pi’s perspective?
 I think I can consider blue because it is a symbol of peace. The
color blue also represents the purity and baptismal qualities of
Christianity. Water is a symbolism for washing away the sins.

10. How do the human beings in your world reflect the animal
behaviour observed by Pi? What do Pi’s strategies in dealing with
Richard Parker teach us about confronting the fearsome
creatures in our lives?
 People are fighting most of the time with different matters. They
against with each idea. But the truth is people can’t live alone. We
need everybody to live and to survive. It is the same with the
thought of the Pi. Because people are close to each other, it’s so
easy to talk and talk about thins not just about them but also
about other people. And for this reason the stories spread more
and more to more people. And it may not be true most the time.

11. Besides the loss of his family and possessions what else did Pi
lose when the tsim tshon sang? What did he gain?
 He cost his friend the animal
 He gained maturity and he losses his normal life
 He lose everything he once has but gained faith, trust, wit and the
courage to survive
12. Nearly everyone experiences a turning point that represents
the transition from youth to adulthood, Albeit seldom as
traumatic as Pi’s.
 By make yourself courage
 The experience of not being understood and accepted. The feeling
that as if I’m not belong; that I’m not supposed to be with them. Hi
taught me a lesson. It made me more mature and strong. That
was my life’s turning point; the time when I learnt to accept and
understand myself more than everyone can ever do.

13. How does Mr. Patel’s zoo-keeping abilities compare to his

parenting skills? Discuss the scene in which he tries his children a
lesson in survival by arranging them to watch a tiger devour a
goat. Did his in any was prepare Pi for the most dangerous
experience on his life.
 The abilities that Mr. Partel have was good because he teach a
lesson that not all animals are our friends.

14. Pi imagines that his brother would have teasingly called him
Noah. How does Pi’s voyage compare to the biblical story of Noah,
who was spared from the flood while God wash away the sinners.
 Both of them have strong faith. Noah was saved from the flood, Pi
was saved from the sinking ship. Because of strong faith, he was
saved while the sinner are perished. Noah and Pi have similarities
in their voyages because like Noah, Pi also saved the animals.
“Bullying is the Fear of Low Person”

What is bullying? Have you notice or witnessed a bullying? Or you

are the one who bullied or victim? Bullying is unwanted, aggressive
behaviour among school aged children that involves a real or perceive
power imbalance the behaviour is repeated, or has the potential to be
repeated, overtime. Both kids who are bullied and who bully others
may have serious lasting problems. Bullying includes actions such as
making threats, spreading rumors, attacking someone physically or
verbally, and excluding someone from a group on purpose.

There are considered bullying, the behaviour must be aggressive

and include like an imbalance of power. Imbalance of power is the kids
who bully use their power such as physical strength, access to
embarrassing information, or popularity to control or harm others.
Power imbalances can change over time and in different situations,
even if they involve the same people. Bullying behaviours happen more
than once.

There are many types of bullying like verbal bullying is saying or

writing mean thins. Verbal bullying includes teasing, name calling,
inappropriate sexual comments, taunting, threatening, to cause harm.
Social bullying, sometimes referred to as relational bullying, involves
hurting someone’s reputations or relationships. Social bullying includes
leaving someone out on purpose, telling other children not to be friends
with someone spreading rumors about someone, embarrassing
someone in public. Physical bullying involves hurting a person’s body
or possessions. Physical bullying includes, hitting, kicking, pinching,
spitting, tripping or pushing, taking or breaking someone’s things,
making mean or rude hand gestures.

The solution to putting an end to bullying is to stop it at the source

but also to find out what is causing the person behaves the way that
they do. Use social media for good and lift others up not tear them
down. Stay on the high road. Keep your peace to and empower yourself
