Chevron-Type Packing Unit Assembly And Cup Mandrel Assembly

Chevron-type Packing Unit Assembly • Seals suitable for virtually any environment
• Seals in low or high pressure, low or high
Packing unit assemblies are used with the ma- temperature
jority of Baker Flow Control (BFC) devices to pro- • Minimum run-in interference
vide a pack-off in the sealing surface of Baker • Not subject to fluid swell under most conditions
Sliding Sleeves and Seating Nipples. Each pack-
ing unit consists of six chevron V-type packing
rings; three positioned to seal against pressure
from below and three sealing against pressure
from above.
The standard material for the chevron-type
packing rings is viton with a kevlar fiber filler (KV-
65) standard on most BFC equipment. The end
and center adapters are 9Cr-1Mo. For tempera-
tures above 275° F, use PT-3 seals listed on pages Chevron-type
6-8. When ordering packing unit assemblies, be Packing Unit
sure to consult the application recommendation Assembly
chart on page 2 of this tech unit to insure that they
meet service requirements.
NOTE: Other packing unit assembly configurations are
available for special applications using non-standard
materials for chevron v-type packing and backup rings
(refer to chart, page 2). Consult the Baker Oil Tools
Engineering Department for technical support and
information when ordering.
Cup Mandrel Assembly
"TS" type tubing ID accessories, designed to
lock in upset tubing couplings and seal off in the
tubing ID, utilize velocity-set packer cups in place
of the chevron-type packing. These cups can be
arranged to hold pressure from above, below or
both directions.
The time required to set the cups varies with ve-
