Barite Stds

Ground barite is a dry, free-flowing powder used to increase drilling fluid density up to 157 pounds per cubic foot. It consists of at least 90% barium sulfate by weight, with limits on contaminants like calcium, carbonates, sulfides, and clay to avoid harming personnel or negatively affecting fluid properties. The barite must also meet standards for specific gravity, particle size distribution, abrasion resistance, and comparison to an API calibration sample.

BARITE

Ground Barite (Barium Sulfate, BaSO 4): Dry, free flowing powder for increasing drilling fluids density up
to 157 pcf (21 lb/gal). The minimum Barium sulfate (BaSO 4) concentration is 90 % Wt. and other
associated elements in the composition must not be harmful to personnel and/or adversely affect
fluidproperties

Standards

2. Specific Gravity: 4.20 gm/cc, Minimum.

3. Water Soluble Alkaline Earth Metals:

a. Calcium: 250 mg/kg Maximum

b. Soluble Carbonates: 3000 mg/l Maximum
c. Soluble Sulfides: 100mg/l Maximum

4. Clay Contamination, CEC (MBT): 0.50 Meq/100g Maximum

5. Cement Contamination: pH after ageing: 10 Maximum

6. Particle Size:
