Circle Inscribed Circumscribed

This document discusses inscribed and circumscribed regular polygons within a circle. An inscribed polygon has vertices on the circle and sides within the circle, while a circumscribed polygon has vertices outside the circle with sides tangent to the circle. The radius of the inscribed polygon equals the radius of the circumscribing circle, and the circumscribed polygon intersects the midpoints of each side of the inscribed circle.

INSCRIBED POLYGON: INSCRIBED AND CIRCUMSCRIBED REGULAR

POLYGON WITHIN A CIRCLE

PARTS OF CIRCLE

CIRCUMSCRIBED POLYGON:

Circumference = 2 • π • radius = π • diameter

Circle Area = π • r² = ¼ • π • d²

A polygon is inscribed in a circle if all its vertices are points on the circle
and all sides are included within the circle .
A polygon is circumscribed in a circle , if its vertices are outside the
circle and its sides are tangent to the circle.
The radius of the inscribed polygon is also the radius of the circumscribed circle.
The circumscribed polygon intersects at the midpoint of each side to the inscribed circle.
The center of the inscribed circle is equidistant from all sides of the circumscribed polygon.
Where: The apothem of the circumscribed polygon is the radius of the inscribed circle.
r = radius of circumscribed circle
n = number of sides
