APPLE ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE AND CULTURE

Introduction

The success of an organization is associated with several factors that are practices within

the organization or outside in the market. Organizational structure is a critical aspect that ensures

there is increased the performance of the organization in the context of promoting the culture.

Organizational structure influences the culture of an organization, and the culture is said to be a

critical component that determines the performance of h organization. Various organizations are

set to depict certain behavior in the organization, and thus, it should be underrated at any given

point. Several organizations that have emerged to be successful in the market or their respective

industries are said to have good organizational structure and behavior. Apple Inc. is said to have

a good organizational structure that has influenced both the behavior and culture that has led to

being successful in the market.

Apple Inc. is known to be a leading company in technology industry through the

production of original products such as Macintosh in 1984. The company has been going through

series of failures and successes the moment where it stands to be the leading in the market in the

production of smartphones and iPads. Apple has a collaborative organizational structure that

is praised for bringing its employees together in a long terms relationship to achieve desired

objectives. Collaborative work conditions are critical because they improve employee and

cooperative performance. Collaborative organizational structure in Apple Inc. has been able to

increase efficiency and effectiveness, thus increasing performance in the organization.

Collaboration among employees is important because it brings about sharing ideas that

are channeled to provide certain objectives. Through close integration of workers, innovation is
prevalent through mind sharing and focused worker suggestions in an organization. According to

the former CEO of Apple, Steve Jobs said that collaboration opened the doors for innovation and

thus increased productivity in the organization. Apple is known to have a flat organizational

structure where managers and employees consult aimed at achieving the desired objective

in the market. Through collaboration, several ideas are shared, and this is focused on achieving

greatest innovation levels influenced by latest technology.

Apple’s organizational structure is simple and not complicated as in different

companies that have been seen globally. The simple organizational structure has been said to

promote workers collaborative abilities aimed at achieving certain goals in the organization. The

organizational structure has remained to the surest strategy that has enhanced the company to

exploit its capabilities in the market. Steve Jobs used to give his employees more than two hours

to think innovatively and come up with strategies that can help the organization achieve its aims

in the market. Apple is currently the best company in the white goods industry, but its success

has closely been associated with the organizational structure it adopted.

Organizational structure dictates certain behaviors and culture in an organization that

controls all the operations of the organization. Hierarchical structures like in the case of Apple’s

competitor Samsung, there are subgroups of workers worker and bottom workers in the

organization will fear to express their concerns or complaints to the top managers. This affects

the performance of the organization in the context of fear of being fired or intimidated by top

employees. Innovation in such companies is not prevalent as in the case of Apple because of lack

of collaboration and workers are not given enough time to share ideas in different aspects. Apple

ensures it hires its workers who have high ability in collaboration and hence increased

innovation.
The human resource management of Apple is very keen on hiring employees and the

behaviors of the employees are a line of the culture and structure of the organization. The human

resource of the company has been involved with the close management of its employees as this

ensures employees behave in a certain desired behaviors. Various policies have been put in place

in ensuring there is increased profitability and productivity in the market. Apple has ensured that

its organizational design is in a manner suggesting integration of people technology and

information within an organization. Apple’s collaborative structure is a critical part that ensures

the organization has a good design that enhances increased innovation efforts of the company in

an organization.

Conclusion

Organizational culture is a critical component in an organization that dictates the

operations of employees. An organization should have to adopt a structure that ensures increased

productivity or profitability in the market. As in the case of Apple, there has been increased

innovative ability that has been spurred by an organizational structure that dictates the behaviors

of the employees in an organization. The organizational structure of Apple has encouraged

collaborative efforts within an organization, and this is focused on increasing productivity of an

organization. Apple can influence innovation through ensuring an environment and behavior of

idea sharing critical in innovation efforts in an organization. Organizations should ensure there is

increased a good structure to focus on achieving its goals and capability of its employees.
