Relationship management module 1

Importance of relationship in an organization

 Improved Teamwork and Collaboration

When people know one another well, they are much more likely to work well together. Watch teams who
have a new member; typically, that new member will remain somewhat isolated until everyone else gets
to know her. If you have several employees who are barely on speaking terms and you throw them
together into a project, it will take some time for them to break the ice and begin to work well together.
Conversely, team members who already know, like and respect each other may be more willing to
collaborate for the betterment of the project.

 Improved Employee Morale

Given how much time employees spend in one another's presence, the development of good relationships
in the workplace can increase employee morale. Coworkers become friendly and look forward to
spending time with one another while they do their jobs. This may also make work more fun for these
employees with the end result not only being a more positive workplace but also improved overall
morale. Conversely, a stiff and unfriendly work environment will have the opposite effect.

 Higher Employee Retention Rates

When employees feel connected to a company, whether it is because they share the same vision as the
company leaders or they feel as though their fellow co-workers have become like family, they will be
much less likely to want to seek employment at another company. Friendships take time to build,
especially quality friendships, and the prospect of having to start all over may help convince some
employees to stay right where they are.

 Increased Employee Productivity

All of these elements add up to one common result: happy employees who are naturally more productive.
Overall, while you may have some issues with employees becoming too friendly and wasting time
together, a happy and well-adjusted workforce is a productive one. By feeling more connected to their
place of employment, workers naturally want to try harder to help keep the company going and to help it
grow.

Role and relationship in an organization

Intrapersonal communication is the communication that occurs within an individual. An individual uses
this type of communication for various purposes such as analyzing situations, clarifying concepts, and
reflecting upon phenomena. There are three elements that govern intrapersonal communication, namely
self-concept, perception and expectation. An individual employs certain methods to communicate within
themselves and these are internal discourse where thinking, concentration and analyzing occur, solo vocal
communication which involves speaking out aloud to oneself, and solo written communication that
encompasses writing not intended for others.
Interpersonal communication on the other hand is the type of communication that takes place between
people. People communicate with each other for a number of reasons such as to explain, to teach, to
inquire, and to inform. The channel of interpersonal communication consists of four basic elements;
sender, message, medium and receiver. There are verbal and non-verbal forms of communication that are
used to conduct interpersonal communication and these include letters, signs, notes, text messages, e-
mails, memos as well as face-to-face conversations.

Maintaining healthy relation in an organization

Bond of Trust

The most important part of a boss-employee relationship is trust. Always be honest to your employees
and never twist your words. Always tell the truth. Be more transparent while you approach your
employees. And never gossip about your employees or share any of their personal information to others.
Trust is the building block and makes your relationship with employees sustainable. So trust building will
give you great results.

Merge the Gap with Communication

Communication is one of the most important key aspects of the boss-employee relationship.

Good communication gives you the understanding of the employees’ sentiments and needs. A workplace
should not only limit to email communication. Weekly meetings and hearing out the employees help you
achieve more employee loyalty. Communication fills the gap between awkwardness and other human
complexities.

Appreciate your Employees

Imagine you work in a company and work really hard to meet up the company’s goals and its deadlines.
Work can make you all exhausted and drained. A simple gesture or a ‘Thank you’ note can lift your mood
up and keep you motivated.

Give your employees the appreciation they need, they work for you and dedicate a lot of time and effort
for your company’s growth. Pat their backs, make them feel special and let them know how much you
value their work. Do it honestly and not just for the sake of it. Though it would take very less time to
appreciate their good work, for them this can bring a whole new motivation and engagement in their
work.

Be Friendly to your Employees

There is a thin line between being friendly with your employees and forming a personal bond. It is
important to acknowledge them and to share friendliness.

Respect your Employees

Respect your employees and their opinions. Never make your employees feel neglected. Don’t be harsh
on their face when you disagree with them. Respect their inputs and try to explain your point of view with
a little more empathy.

Implement Autonomy

Give your employees the freedom in your workplace. Nobody would appreciate you if you don’t give
your employees enough room and space to complete their tasks. It’s very evident that autonomy in the
workplace increases job satisfaction and your relationship with employees.

Show Value, Be Empathetic

Value your employees. When you do it honestly, your relationship would automatically transcend to
another level. If any of your employees go to any problems and have a hard time dealing with it. Give
them your helping hand and this could create wonders for your relationship.

One to one Interactions

Go a little extra mile to talk to your employees’ and have a one to one interaction with them when needed.
This would create a sense of support for your employees.

Have a learning attitude

Don’t take the proverb “ The boss is always right ” literally. Keep a learning attitude and this would help
the employees to feel more comfortable while they give their point of views to you. This also helps the
employees to realize that they are all the same and gives a sense of oneness.
