Concept Paper

This document discusses the negative effects of plastic waste production on the environment. It aims to raise awareness about the growing problem of plastic pollution. Plastic waste is accumulating in the environment and harming wildlife and their habitats. The Philippines produces a shocking amount of plastic waste each year, including over 58 billion sachets. Conducting symposiums is proposed as a methodology to educate the public on the dangers of plastic pollution and how to reduce plastic waste to help address this important environmental issue. Support is needed from the community to participate in efforts to clean up plastic waste and make the environment healthier.

This study shows the negative effects of plastic waste production and

how it affects our environment. We conduct this study to spread

awareness to those people who are still oblivious of the current problem

we are facing right now, which is plastic pollution and the danger it poses.

And how it is becoming a danger in our life.

This proposal paper that we came up is actually beneficial to all ages in

our community. This paper also shows the solution on solving the said

dilemma, which is being aware. As we all know some of the disadvantages

of using plastic are that they pollute the environment and in time may

pose a danger to wildlife, if not taken care of immediately. Plastic

pollution is inevitable in the world we live in, but we can help lessen it by

being aware of its dangers and taking steps to reduce waste. Some of our

reasons in conducting this is to look into the problems caused by plastic

waste production and how to reduce the cases of plastic pollution. One of

our goal is to clean our community by spreading awareness on the

negative effects of plastic waste production in our environment.

OBJECTIVES

 To spread awareness to those people who are wing plastics because

it can destroy our environment especially to our mother earth.

 To advocate the negatives effects and how it affects the environment

or the earth.

 To lessen Pollution and prevent floods into our environment

 To make our community clean and to avoid sickness

 To advance and develop for the benefit of its members and the

public, the art, science, technology and engineering of plastics,

natural and synthetic high polymers and other related materials.

 To form and organize a strong professional body of those connected

or concerned with plastics, natural and synthetic high polymers and

other related materials.

 To institute, supervise, advice upon and advance the standard and

methods of education and training at all levels in the fields of

plastics, natural and synthetic high polymers and related materials

and in related technical and non-technical subjects, including finance

and management thereof.

 To project plastics, natural and synthetic high polymers and other

related materials as eco-friendly materials with excellent

recyclability and their contribution in conserving natural resources

and saving energy.

 To project the vital contribution of plastics, natural and synthetic

high polymers and related materials in various fields of national

economy and the role they play in improving agricultural

productivity and in cost effective protection, preservation, storage

and handling of products in infrastructure development, in

economizing construction costs, in providing affordable healthcare.

 To disseminate for public awareness all relevant information about

plastics, natural and synthetic high polymers and related materials

so as to remove myths and misconceptions arising out of ignorance

and to educate public, NGOs and policy makers and the media

about the beneficial role plastics play in improving overall quality of

life.
INTRODUCTION

Plastic Waste Production is one of the most pressing environmental

issue in our country not just in our country but all around the world and

the most advances of human society over the past century have been

facilitated by the use of plastics. Plastic pollution, accumulation in the

environment of synthetic plastic products to the point where they create

problems for wildlife and their habitats as well as for human population

.Plastics are composed of a network of molecular monomers bound

together to form macromolecules of infinite use in human society. Plastics

and their byproducts are littering our cities, oceans, and waterways, and

contributing to health problems in humans and animals. There is however

a lack of information on how much plastic debris finds its way to the

oceans and how much of it there already is in the oceans. In order to

identify the information needs and to explore what is already known and

being done in the world.

MANILA, Philippines – An audit in the Philippines has shown the

country uses a "shocking" amount of single-use plastic, including nearly 60

billion sachets a year, a new report said Friday, March 8.The report,
produced by the NGO GAIA, is part of an effort to collect data on plastic

consumption as environmentalists push for government action to reduce

plastic waste. It contains eye-popping figures: every day, almost 48 million

shopping bags are used throughout the Philippines, adding up to more

than 17 billion a year. And that figure does not include the smaller,

thinner, and often transparent plastic bags known as "labor" bags – around

16.5 billion of those are used per year across the country, the report says.

The figures are based on 21 waste assessments conducted in 6 cities and 7

municipalities across the Philippines, with the national figures produced

by extrapolating from local results. More than half of non-recyclable

plastic analyzed in the survey came from sachets – small plastic packets

often lined with aluminum or containing other materials that make them

non-recyclable. “On a per capita basis, it's about one sachet per person per

day," said Froilan Grate, executive director of GAIA's Asia-Pacific office.

“But on a per-year, per city basis, it's quite shocking. It runs into the

millions and billions depending on the place," he told Agence France-

Presse.

Plastic waste in Tagum city, last month, a dead whale found in Mabini,

Compostela Valley yielded 40 kilos of plastic in its stomach including 16

rice sacks, four banana plantation style bags and multiple shopping bags.
Tagum City, Davao Del Norte, Philippines. A ₱700 Million waste to energy

facility, which would produce up to the megawatts of power a day, will

rise here in 2015. From plastic wastes to useful chairs. Davao city, Dec 17

(PIA) Addressing Shortage of school chairs and disposing plastic wastes

are answered in one solution. It is by converting these plastics into chairs

and others useful furniture.

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY

The purpose of this study is to make awareness to those people who are

using plastics that can cause global warming. It can destroy our nature and

not having a fresh air because, what we have now is polluted area and

uncleanliness environment. Plastics can destroy marine’s lives and can

cause sickness to other people who have low immune system. Humans are

the main source of this, so this study helps those people to aware what will

they do to prevent this situation and to lessen the calamities that we have

encountered.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION (METHODOLOGY)

The researcher will conduct and make symposium about this study to

spread awareness and how to prevent this environmental issues .The

researcher will give a letter consent to the area where the researcher talks

about symposium. First, the speaker greets the people who come to the

symposium and give some morning exercises to boost their energy that they

can listen attentively to the message that the speaker relay. The speaker

starts his symposium about plastic waste and the negative effects of our

environment. He talks about how we prevent and avoid wasting plastics to

lessen the problem that we have in our environment.

The speaker wants the listener to think wisely if they always use plastics

and what would be the result if plastics overcome in our environment.

Because of plastics there’s a lot of disasters, global warming, marines lives

is in danger, people get sick easily and polluted area will also affects the

lives of all living things. This symposium will help us and enlighten our

mind to become more responsible and make some action on how to avoid

using plastics. Therefore , the listeners ask some questions to the speaker of
what is the first step that they will do to make our environment clean. The

speaker respond to the listener that the first thing that they will do is to

become more responsible to our community and to have more initiative.
