Christianity - major religion, stemming from the
life, teachings, and death of Jesus of
Nazareth (the Christ, or the Anointed One of God) in the 1st century CE. It has become the largest of the world’s religions and, geographically, the most widely diffused of all faiths. (Matt Stefon and Martin E. Marty)
Christianity is the faith tradition that focuses on
the figure of Jesus Christ. In this context, faith refers both to the believers’ act of trust and to the content of their faith
Jesus commissioned the apostles to spread
Christianity throughout the world but it was Jesus Himself who "founded" Christianity with His death, shed blood, and resurrection from the dead.
Matthew 28:18-20
Acts 1:8
Christianity originated with the ministry of
Jesus in the first century Roman province of Judea. According to the Gospels, Jesus was a Jewish teacher and healer who proclaim the imminent Kingdom of God, and was crucified at c. 30-33 AD.
4 major beliefs of Christianity
• Christians believe that there is only one
God, whom they call Father as Jesus Christ taught them.
• The death, descent into hell,
resurrection and ascension of Christ.
• The holiness of the church and the
communion of Saints.
• Christ’s second coming, the Day of
judgement and salvation of the faithful.
Why is Christianity called Christianity?
Both Christians and Jews follow the Old
Testament of the Bible, but Christians also embrace the New Testament. The cross is a symbol of Christianity. The most important Christian holidays are Christmas (which celebrates the birth of Jesus) and east.
