CATERPILLAR EXHAUST TEMPERATURE SCANNER OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

P/N 179-9001 FORM 179-9001 IOI 9-00

CAUTION: The 179-9001 exhaust temperature scanner is suitable for use in Class I, Group
D, Division 2 hazardous locations when installed in accordance with these
instructions.
The thermocouple leads connected to this device operate at a very low voltage
and power levels and MUST NOT CONTACT any external voltage source.
Damage to the system will result from connection between the thermocouple and
the ignition system or any AC or DC power source above 35 volts.

WARNING: DEVIATION FROM THESE OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS MAY LEAD TO

IMPROPER OPERATION OF THE MONITORED MACHINE WHICH COULD CAUSE
PERSONAL INJURY TO OPERATORS OR OTHER NEARBY PERSONNEL.

1.0 DESCRIPTION

1.1 The Caterpillar 179-9001 exhaust temperature scanner is an electronic temperature

scanner designed to monitor up to 24 temperature points using industry standard type K
thermocouples. It can be powered nominally from 12 to 24 Vdc. The scanner uses a
microcontroller to process the input signal and non-volatile memory to store the setup
and setpoint values. An LCD displays the channel number and the numeric temperature
value in EF or EC. A front mounted keypad serves as the user interface. The scanner
can read type K thermocouples between +32EF and 1562EF (0EC and 850EC).

1.2 There are six user settable temperature setpoints that can be adjusted using the keypad
and two configurable output switches that can be mapped to any of the setpoints. Both
are solid state open drain switches that close to supply minus. They can be individually
configured for normally open or normally closed operation. The loss of power state is
open. A typical use for this scanner is to read, monitor and alarm up to 20 exhaust
cylinder temperatures as well as up to four turbocharger inlet and outlet temperatures.

1.3 The 179-9001 scanner is designed to be versatile and simple to use. The keypad can be
used to change the temperature readout in EF or EC, select auto or manual display scan,
change the display filter value which can be used to stabilize readings where the
thermocouple signal is fluctuating and select the number of cylinders and turbo’s. A
“view alarms” function allows the user to recall and display a history of channels which
have exceeded their setpoints. An escape key is provided to permit the user to exit any
setup function and return to the normal display without any changes.

1.4 For proper operation, these operating instructions must be adhered to strictly.

-1-
2.0 THERMOCOUPLES

2.1 The 179-9001 scanner is designed to operate with industry standard, grounded or
ungrounded, type K thermocouples. Ungrounded thermocouples are recommended
where possible. All unused thermocouple inputs in the scanner must be shunted.

3.0 MOUNTING

3.1 Mount the scanner inside a control panel or to a suitable flat surface so that the display is
at a convenient viewing height. This device fits the industry standard cutout for a round
4-1/2” diameter gauge.
NOTE: Avoid mounting the scanner with the LCD display facing direct sunlight. The
display temperature range is !4EF to +167EF (!20EC to +75EC).

4.0 WIRING (SEE WIRING DIAGRAMS)

4.1 POWER WIRING - Input system power can be from 12 to 24 Vdc (0.25A max.).
Connect the DC power input wires, plus to pin 6 POWER + POS and minus to pin 7
POWER - NEG.

4.2 THERMOCOUPLES AND THERMOCOUPLE EXTENSION WIRE - Please see the

wiring table at the end of this document for proper thermocouple wiring. Grounded or
ungrounded type K thermocouples may be used. Use thermocouple extension wire of
the same type as the thermocouple probe to connect the thermocouple to the scanner.
Use stranded thermocouple wire having a good moisture-resistant insulation such as
PVC; for higher ambient temperatures, teflon or B-fibre insulated thermocouple wire is
recommended. To insure an accurate signal is transmitted to the scanner, avoid any
added junctions, splices and contact with other metals. Take care not to damage the
insulation when installing and take precautions against later damage from vibration,
abrasion, or liquids in conduits. In addition, it is essential that the following practices be
adhered to:
A. Never run thermocouple wires in the same conduit as the ignition wiring or other
high energy wiring such as AC line power.
B. Use resistor spark plugs in engine for lower EMI emitions.
C. Keep secondary wires to spark plugs and other high voltage wiring at least twelve
inches (300mm) away from thermocouples and extension wiring.
D. Mount unit at least twelve (12) inches away from ignition coils and primary and
secondary wires.

4.3 OUTPUT SWITCH WIRING - When an alarm or fault condition occurs, the configured
output switch will turn ON/OFF to its minus terminal. The switches are rated 35 Vdc, 2
amp max. These switches are solid state open drain and can be wired to sound alarm
horns or to pilot duty relays.

-2-
4.4 HAZARDOUS AREA OPERATION - The 179-9001 scanner is designed to meet the
requirements for CLASS I, DIVISION 2, GROUP D areas when mounted in a suitable
enclosure.
WARNING: DO NOT DISCONNECT EQUIPMENT IN DIV. 2 ENVIRONMENT UNLESS
POWER IS SWITCHED OFF OR THE AREA IS KNOWN TO BE NON-HAZARDOUS.

4.5 TESTING THERMOCOUPLE LEADS - If it becomes necessary to check thermocouple

to connector wiring with an ohmmeter or other checker, first unplug the connector from
the scanner. This will prevent possible damage to the device’s sensitive low voltage
detection circuitry.

5.0 NORMAL OPERATION

5.1 When the 179-9001 scanner is in the “normal” mode, it displays one at a time, all
configured cylinder temperatures on the top line and the average of the cylinder
temperatures on the bottom line. It also displays all of the configured turbocharger
temperatures. The numeric temperature value and either EF or EC is displayed.

5.2 If a monitored thermocouple temperature falls below the minimum range of the scanner
(32EF or 0EC), the display will read “X LO OOR” low out of range to identify this condition
on that channel. If the thermocouple temperature exceeds the maximum range of the
scanner (1562EF or 850EC) the display will read “X HI OOR” high out of range on that
channel. In both of these cases the min or max value will be included in the average
temperature value. “X” represents the associated cylinder or turbo number.
NOTE: If a thermocouple or its wiring becomes open or disconnected from the scanner,
the display will read “X TCOPEN” and if configured for a high or if deviation is great
enough, its configured output switch will turn on. This value will not be included in the
average temperature value. All unused thermocouple inputs must be shunted to prevent
this condition in normal operation.

6.0 KEYPAD DESCRIPTION

6.1 The 179-9001 scanner contains an eight-key front keypad which is used to view the
configured cylinders and turbo’s, view or change the setpoint values and to edit and
calibrate the scanner. The eight front panel keys are VIEW ALARMS, SETUP, RESET,
ENTER/ACK, SETPTS, ESC, and s, t (up and down arrow keys).

-3-
6.2 VIEW ALARMS -The VIEW ALARMS key allows the user to view the status of the engine
sense line, the highest cylinder temperature log, the history of channels which have
exceeded their setpoints (up to 4 of the last faults) and clear the logs. This is helpful in
determining both the maximum cylinder temperature and which thermocouple is
responsible for tripping an output switch. These values are stored in non-volatile
memory allowing the temperature scanner to power down and still retain the information.
Pressing VIEW ALARMS will first display the engine sense line status then the highest
cylinder temperature, then it scrolls through the channels in which the measured
temperature has exceeded the setpoint values. Any channel that has not exceeded its
setpoint value will not be displayed. To clear the max cylinder temperature log, display it
and press the RESET key, the display will show “CLEAR?”, pressing ENTER/ACK clears
the log. If lock is off it will be cleared. See section 12.0 for combination lock information.
Pressing the escape key retains the log and returns to the normal mode. To clear the
history of channels that have exceeded their setpoints, display any one of them and
press the RESET key, the display will show “CLEAR?”, asking the user if these points
should be cleared. At this point, pressing ENTER/ACK clears any faults which are not
currently exceeding their setpoints. Pressing the escape key retains the alarms in
memory and returns to the normal mode. NOTE: This function has no effect on the
output switches.

6.3 SETUP - The SETUP key is used to scroll through the scanner setup menu.

6.4 RESET - The RESET key acts as a global reset. It allows the user to reset any and all of
the faulted points, clears the output switches and restarts the start-up timer.

6.5 ENTER/ACK - The ENTER/ACK key is used to save new data or a new configuration in
non-volatile memory. It is also used to acknowledge a fault on the current channel. It will
also cancel the start-up timer.

6.6 SETPTS - The SETPTS (setpoints) key is used to view or change each of the six
setpoint values. When pressed, each setpoint description as well as the setpoint
temperature value is displayed. Refer to section 8.0 for more information. NOTE: The
setpoints cannot be changed if the protection is set to “ON”.

6.7 ESC - The ESC (escape) key can be used at any time to return to the normal screen.
When the ESC key is pressed in any configuration mode, any changed values are
ignored (not stored in memory), the configuration returns to the previous values and the
display returns to the normal reading.

6.8 s t - The up and down arrow keys are used to increment the displayed channel and
corresponding temperature value. Each press of the up arrow key increments the
channel one at a time while the down arrow key decrements it. These keys also scroll
through the selections in the setup mode and are used to increase or decrease values
for setpoints, calibration and the filter screen.

-4-
7.0 START-UP SEQUENCE

7.1 The start-up sequence is used for engine start-up to lock out the selected setpoints and the
output switches. Not all setpoints use all three functions; see below for details. The start-
up sequence is as follows:

1. Allow engine sense line to go high (unground the engine sense line).
2. Engine arm temperature must be met.
3. Start-up timer expires.

The conditions above are listed in priority. Each condition must be met to move to the next.
If any prior condition recurs, the sequence will start again from that condition. All three
conditions must be met for the selected setpoints to be active on start-up. Other setpoints
require only the engine sense line to be active on start-up. Following is the factory setup for
the six setpoints and the conditions required to be met for the setpoints to be armed on
start-up:

CYL DEV - Engine sense line, Arm Temp, Start-up timer

CYL HI 1 - Engine sense line, Arm Temp, Start-up timer
CYL HI 2 - Engine sense line, Arm Temp, Start-up timer
TO HI 1 - Engine sense line only
TO HI 2 - Engine sense line only
TI HI - Engine sense line only

Note: Any of these six setpoints can individually be configured using the terminal program to
be armed immediately upon the release of the engine sense line or require the arm
temperature and start-up timer to be met before being armed.

7.2 ENGINE SENSE LINE - The engine sense line is used to indicate whether the engine is
running or not. An external contact must be provided that will ground the engine sense line
when the engine is not running and open the contact from ground when the engine is
running. With the engine sense line grounded all the setpoints and outputs will be inactive
and the display will read one of the normal screens.
NOTE: If the ENGINE SENSE LINE is not used the line is pulled high internally and is
always active.

7.3 ENGINE ARM TEMPERATURE - When the engine sense line is released and allowed to
go high, the system waits for the average cylinder temperature to reach the engine arm
temperature. The engine arm temperature is configurable from the terminal program and
can be edited from the keypad in the setpoints menu.

-5-
7.4 START-UP TIMER - The start-up timer starts when the engine arm temperature is met. The
normal display shows the start-up timer by displaying “TIMER” and “xxm” then for the last 60
seconds “xxs”. If at any time when the timer is active the average cylinder temperature
goes below the configured engine arm temperature, the timer will start over. It is not until
the average cylinder temperature stays above the configured engine arm temperature for
the entire time that the setpoints will become active. If at any time during normal operation
the average cylinder temperature goes below the configured arm temperature, the selected
setpoints will become inactive. The start-up timer can be canceled by pressing the
ENTER/ACK key, or reset to max programmed time by pressing the RESET key. When the
start-up timer expires, all setpoints are active as well as the output switches. Pressing the
ESC key or the up or down arrow keys during when the timer is active will display the
normal screen. Pressing the ESC key again will return to the start-up timer screen. If no
setpoint is configured to use the timer it will not display during start-up.

7.5 SETPOINTS ARE ARMED - When the setpoints are armed and if a fault occurs the display
will jump to the faulted point, display the cause of the alarm and the display will flash. The
configured output(s) will activate. When the fault is acknowledged by pressing the
ENTER/ACK key the display will quit flashing but if the setpoint is still violated will continue
to read “ALARM”. For further description on fault conditions see section 10.0.

7.6 STATUS INDICATORS - A status of whether the setpoints are armed or not is available by
pressing the SETPTS key. An “A” for armed will appear on the 2nd line far right on each
setpoint screen if the setpoint is armed. If not armed the “A” will not appear. Also, a status
of the engine sense line is available by pressing the VIEW ALARMS key. The display will
show “ENGINE SENSE NOT ACTIVE” with the engine sense line grounded and “ENGINE
SENSE ACTIVE” with the engine sense line not grounded. If the setpoint is set to “OFF”
the “A” indicator will not display.

8.0 SETPOINTS

8.1 There are six individually adjustable setpoints which can be set anywhere within the range
of the scanner or off. The setpoints are as follows:
SET CYL DEV - Deviation from average cylinder temperature
SET CYL HI 1 - First high cylinder setpoint
SET CYL HI 2 - Second high cylinder setpoint
SET TO HI 1 - First high turbo outlet temperature
SET TO HI 2 - Second high turbo outlet temperature
SET TI HI - High turbo inlet temperature
To view or change the setpoint values, press the SETPTS key one time to view the first
setpoint; press it again to view the second setpoint and so on. The setpoint description will
be on the first line and the value will be on the second line. To adjust the displayed value,
press the s or t (up/down arrow keys) to increase or decrease the value until the desired
trip-point is reached. Press ENTER/ACK to accept and save the new value. The new
setpoint value will change only if the ENTER/ACK key is pressed. Press the ESC key to
return to the normal display mode with no setpoint value change. To set the selected
setpoint off (no display or output switch action) press the RESET and ENTER keys when
adjusting the setpoint. To turn it back on, display the setpoint and press the RESET and
ENTER keys, the previously set value will be displayed. This can also be configured from
the terminal program.

-6-
8.1 (Continued)

NOTE If no key is pressed for 15 seconds, the display will return to the normal mode and
the configuration will revert back to the previous parameters. The average arm temperature
and the start-up timer can also be adjusted in this menu. For more information on these
items see section 9.0 on scanner configuration.

8.2 OUTPUT SWITCHES - There are two output switches which are solid state open drain
switches rated 35 Vdc, 2 amps max. Each output switch can be mapped to any setpoint
when configuring the scanner. Each output switch can be configured for normally open or
normally closed and latching or nonlatching. With absence of power the switches revert to
the open state. Each output switch will open or close within two seconds (see note below) if
the input temperature for that particular channel exceeds the setpoint value for that channel.
There is a built-in hysteresis of 10EF (or 5EC). This hysteresis feature prevents the outputs
from rapidly turning on and off near the threshold. If set to nonlatching the output will
automatically clear if the temperature is less than the setpoint value plus or minus the
hysteresis value. If the outputs are configured for latching the outputs can be reset by
pressing and holding the RESET key until the display shows “RESET”, approximately three
(3) seconds.
NOTE: The output switch reaction time is tied to the filter value with two seconds being the
minimum. For other reaction times see section 9.5 below.

9.0 SCANNER CONFIGURATION

9.1 The scanner must be configured before using it on an engine: The following are the items
that can be configured. The items with an * can be edited via the keypad, the others must
be preconfigured or configured using the terminal program.

-7-
9.2 The following can be adjusted using the keypad. Press the SETUP key to reach any of
these configuration headings from the normal display mode. The exception being the
average cylinder arm temperature and the start-up timer, they can be edited via the
setpoints menu. After a selection has been made or a value changed, press the
ENTER/ACK key; the display will read “SAVED”. It is at this time the new data is saved.
The ESC (escape) key can be used at any time to abort the configuration mode and return
to the normal reading. During configuration, the gauge allows 15 seconds for first level and
60 seconds for other levels between keystrokes to change or save a new configuration. If
the time lapses without a keystroke, the gauge will automatically return to the normal mode
without making any changes. The new information is saved only if the ENTER/ACK key is
pressed and the gauge shows “SAVED”. A flowchart is provided that shows step-by-step
progression through the gauge configuration procedure.

9.3 “UNITS EF or EC” - The available temperature units are EF and EC. When changing
temperature units, all temperature values are automatically converted to the new unit value.
To change the unit indicator, press the SETUP key until the display shows “UNITS” and
either “EF” or “EC”. The previously programmed unit indicator will appear. Use the s or t
arrow keys to select one of the available units, and press ENTER/ACK to accept and save
the change. The display will read “SAVED” and return to the normal mode displaying the
new units selected and the numeric value converted to the selected units.

9.4 “AUTOSCAN YES or NO” - The AUTOSCAN function allows the user to select either auto
or manual display scan. If AUTOSCAN is set to “YES” (auto scan on), the scanner first
displays channel one and increments through the other channels in numerical order at the
rate of approximately two seconds per channel, and then continuously repeats the process.
If AUTOSCAN is set to “NO” (auto scan OFF or manual scan), the scanner first displays
channel one and can be incremented manually to the other channels using the s or t
arrow keys.

9.5 “FILTER VALUE” DISPLAY FILTER - The display filter can be used to stabilize the display
reading of a changing input. Filtering is done in both hardware and software. The software
filter is an adjustable filter; the rate of change is less for large values. The filter value is
read-out in a number from 1 to 255, 1 being no filter value and 255 being maximum filter
value. Below are some typical filter values and their effect on the display reading. Settling
values are approximate times in seconds to reach 90% of new reading. To set the filter
value press the SETUP key until the display shows “FILTER VALUE”; the display will read
the previously set filter value. Use the s or t arrow keys to increase or decrease the filter
value and press ENTER/ACK to save the new filter value.

FILTER VALUE 1 128 200 210 220 230 240 250 253 255
SETTLING, SEC. 2.0 2.5 5.0 6.0 8.0 10 14 37 75 204

9.6 “CYLINDERS” - Select cylinders to configure the number of active cylinders. Use the s or
t arrow keys to set the desired number of cylinders and press the ENTER/ACK key to
save the new selection. Note: Configure the number of cylinders before turbos.

9.7 “TURBOS” - Select turbos to configure the number of active turbochargers. Use the up
arrow key t to set the desired number of turbochargers and the down arrow key s to
select to display either turbo out, turbo in, or both turbo out and turbo in. Press the
ENTER/ACK key to save the new selection.

-8-
9.8 “SET ARM TMP” - In the setpoints menu, the average cylinder arm temperature can be
adjusted to any temperature within the range of the scanner. Use the s or t arrow keys
to set the desired average cylinder arm temperature and press the ENTER/ACK key to
save the new selection.

9.9 “SET TIMER” - In the setpoints menu, the start-up timer values can be adjusted in minutes.
Use the s or t arrow keys to set the desired start-up timer value and press the
ENTER/ACK key to save the new selection.

10.0 FAULT CONDITIONS

10.1 When a fault occurs the display will jump to the faulted channel and flash. The configured
output switch will change states. The top line will display the cylinder or turbo that is in
violation and display the current temperature on that channel. The second line will display
the word “ALARM” and the description of the fault. The fault descriptions are: DEV, HI 1,
HI 2, TO HI 1, TO HI 2, and TI HI. The display will continue to flash on the faulted channel
until the fault is acknowledged by pressing the ENTER/ACK key. With the fault still
occurring, pressing the ENTER/ACK key will stop the display from flashing and clear the
output switch. If another fault is occurring, the output will clear for 5 seconds and then the
output switch will be reactivated. All unacknowledged faulted channels will flash when that
faulted point is viewed on the display. The display will continue to flash on each faulted
channel until either the fault condition quits or it is acknowledged or is reset. The “ALARM”
indication will continue to be displayed on all faults that are still occurring and have been
acknowledged but not reset. The ENTER/ACK key individually acknowledges each fault
and the RESET key globally acknowledges and resets the faults. The non faulted
channels will continue to display as normal (without the ALARM word on the second line).

10.2 Alarm priorities - There are two sets of priorities, one for the cylinders and the other for the
turbo’s. These setpoints have a priority because there are more than one setpoint
associated with each channel. The alarm priorities are as follows:

CYLINDER TURBO
1st Priority - Cylinder Deviation Turbo Out High 1
2nd Priority - Cylinder High 1 Turbo Out High 2
3rd Priority - Cylinder High 2

10.3 When the output switch is configured to a latching condition the output will clear upon
acknowledging the fault (the same as with nonlatching) but will not clear if the fault
condition quits and is not acknowledged. Acknowledging each fault individually until all
faulted points have been acknowledged or pressing and holding the RESET key for 3
seconds or cycling the power will clear the latched output(s).

10.4 Pressing and holding the RESET key for 3 seconds does a global reset of all the past
faults. It clears all current unacknowledged unfaulted points, clears the latching outputs
and resets the start-up timer. Note: cycling the power will accomplish the same results.

-9-
11.0 VIEW ALARMS

11.1 View alarms, is a data logging feature that records in non-volatile memory the highest
cylinder temperature and the 4 most recent fault occurrences. These can be viewed by
pressing the VIEW ALARMS key. These logs will remain with the interruption of power.

11.2 Pressing the VIEW ALARMS key will first display the engine sense line status. The display
will show either “ENGINE SENSE NOT ACTIVE” or “ENGINE SENSE ACTIVE”. These
are described in detail in section 7.6.

11.3 The highest cylinder temperature recorded will be displayed next. This feature will
continuously log and display the highest cylinder temperature read until it is cleared.

11.4 Continuing pressing the VIEW ALARMS key will display up to four of the most recent fault
occurrences. The display will show the cylinder or turbo number of the fault and the
indication of the fault. The latest occurrences will be displayed first, then the second, third,
and then the fourth in order. When a new fault occurrence occurs the oldest will be
pushed out and it will be replaced with the previous one etc. If there are no faults to be
displayed, the display will read the system status and then the highest cylinder temperature
recorded and when the VIEW ALARMS key is pressed again it will return to the normal
screen.

11.5 To clear the highest cylinder temperature recorded, press the VIEW ALARMS key until the
display shows “CYLXX XXXXEF / MAX” and press the RESET key. The display will show
“CLEAR?”. Press ENTER to clear the max temp, the display will show SAVED; or press
ESC and the max temp will remain.

11.6 To clear the 4 most recent faults, press the VIEW ALARMS key until the display shows one
of the logged faults and press the RESET key. The display will show “CLEAR?”. Press
ENTER to clear the alarms, the display will show SAVED; or press ESC and the alarms will
remain.

12.0 COMBINATION LOCKS

12.1 SETPOINT VALUES, NUMBER OF CYLINDERS AND TURBO’S, AND MAX CYL TEMP -
This combination disables the ability to change the setpoint values as well as the number
of cylinders and turbo’s and the maximum cylinder temperature recorded. When protection
is ON, the user is able to view the values but is not able to change any of them. The key
combination is to press and hold the ENTER/ACK and ESC keys and also press the
SETPTS key. The display will read “SAVED” and the lock will be on. The user can view
the locked values but cannot change and save them. If the user tries to save a new value
the display will respond with “LOCKED” and return to the normal screen. These items can
be unlocked using the same key combination.

12.2 CALIBRATION - The key sequence to access calibration is to press the SETUP key and
then press the RESET and SETPTS keys together, the display will show “CAL”. See
section 13.0 for calibration procedure.

-10-
12.3 FACTORY DEFAULTS - The 179-9001 scanner contains a set of factory defaults that are
available to the user anytime during the life of the scanner. One use would be to return to
the factory calibration if for some reason the new calibration is not desired. To access the
factory defaults get to the calibration menu as described in 12.2 above and press the
SETUP key, the display will show “DEFS” press ENTER/ACK to reconfigure the scanner to
the factory defaults. WARNING: This will change all of the previously configured data in
non-volatile memory. Press the ESC key if it is not desired to load the factory defaults. If
the display shows “LOCKED”, use the unlock sequence as described above in section 12.1
before selecting the factory defaults.

13.0 CALIBRATION

13.1 The scanner is calibrated at the factory and should not require additional calibration.
However, calibration can be performed in the field many times over the life of the gauge.
The calibration mode is used to calibrate the zero and span values of the scanner.
Calibration can be performed from the front keypad without disassembling the gauge. A
thermocouple calibrator or simulator is required to provide a calibration reference.

NOTE: During calibration, the gauge allows 60 seconds between keystrokes to change or
save a new calibration. If 60 seconds lapse without a keystroke, the gauge will
automatically return to the normal mode with the previous values. The new calibration
information is saved only if the ENTER/ACK key is Tj -32mode the gauge shows
“SAVED”.

13.2 CALIBRATION PROCEDURE - Connect a type K thermocouple simulator, using proper

thermocouple extension wire, to the scanner thermocouple input channel 1. The 179-9001
scanner MUST be calibrated on channel 1 only. The calibration performed on channel 1
applies to all channels. To calibrate the scanner, press the SETUP then press both the
RESETode SETPTS keys, the display will read “CAL” and press ENTER/ACK. The
display will read “SEToLO P.T.”. Adjust the simulator for a very low reading (40EF) and
press ENTER/ACK, the display will read “SAMPLING” and then “ADJUST LO PT”. Use the
s or t arrow keys to increase or decrease the display reading to match the setting of the
simulator and press ENTER/ACK. The display will now read “SEToHI PT”. Adjust the
simulator for a very high reading (1000EF) and press ENTER/ACK, the display will read
“SAMPLING” and then “ADJUST HI PT”. Again use the s or t arrow keys to increase or
decrease the display reading to match the simulator and press ENTER/ACK. The display
will read “SAVED” and will return to the normal reading with the new calibration values
stored in permanent memory. NOTE: Be sure that the units (EC or EF) of the calibrator
match the units of the scanner before performing a calibration. Calibration of unit must be
performed in a low EMI environment.
