Traditional and Modern

Traditional Philippine houses are built using natural and locally sourced materials like bamboo, wood, and nipa that are readily available in the environment. Modern barong-barong or traditional houses also use found materials like deteriorated wood and scrap metal roofing but the materials are often scavenged from junkyards. Unlike traditional houses, barong-barong have limited and defined spaces due to their smaller size. However, they are still constructed without blueprints by local inhabitants. Some barong-barong homes are elevated to protect from flooding depending on their location near riversides.
