Frequency Hopping (FHOP) on TX and RX
• Benefit
– Less costly network growth
– Remote site can access ANY available network bandwidth

WITHOUT TX and RX FHOP

Becomes a One Carrier System

•Network Capacity = Node capacity 1x

•To expand network capacity must
change existing RF and/or Antenna

WITH TX and RX FHOP

Up to 32 Satellite Carriers
•Network Capacity 32x
•Expansion without changing existing sites
RF or Antenna
•All Carriers acts as a bandwidth pool that
any site can access on demand
FREQHOPP

TDMA/BoD with Frequency Hopping

•Total network bandwidth is a Pool

•Each terminal can access any available
Typical Satellite Transponder bandwidth on any carrier on up to 32 carriers
•To add network capacity just add another
carrier

Bandwidth on Demand (BoD)

PolarSat Proprietary and Confidential 13

Bandwidth on Demand
• Dynamic Bandwidth on Demand
– Bandwidth rules (CIR, EIR) are defined by Operator
– Bandwidth is allocated on any carrier (both transmit/receive) network wide
– Supports user configurable Permanently Assigned Bandwidth in addition to
BoD The BoD server resides in the Primary reference node
• Bandwidth is allocated in client server model
– Remote stations are the client and send regular statistics about bandwidth
usage to the BoD server
– The BoD server responds by allocating more or less bandwidth to the
remote
• BoD Server
– No special hardware or cost for BoD Server.
• Any VSATPlus 3 can be the BoD Server
– In the event of failure of the primary then it automatically switches to the
secondary node
• Bandwidth is allocated based upon a remote terminals Commited
Information Rate (CIR) and Excess Information Rate (EIR) settings
– The terminal will get bandwidth if it is available and it can get addition
bandwidth up to a maximum rate or CIR+EIR

Integrated IP transport

VSATPlus 3 supports integrated services over a single IP interface

PolarSat Proprietary and Confidential 15

IP - Key Features
• Protocol Performance Enhancements
– QoS
• 8 levels of definable QoS
• IP Type of Service (ToS) bits are utilized for QoS mapping
• Fragmentation and Reassembly of packets for consistent delay
• Specific IP address can be utilized in addition to ToS
– e.g. Increasing VoIP gateway signaling traffic priority
– TCP Acceleration (PEP) (Option)
• TCP compatible – easier to deploy
• Fast start for quick connection setup
• TCP Payload compression
• Built in IP routing
– VSATPlus 3 provides built in routing of IP packets
– Each terminal supports multiple subnets

– Transmit and receive
• Data rates from 338KBPS to 6.66MBPS
– Software definable
• Scalable Network size
– Network architecture supported a 1000 node full mesh network
• Requires no external timing source
– No GPS or Atomic Clock
• Integrated uplink power control
• IF interface
– 70MHz
– L-Band
• Supplies 10MHz
• External 24 VDC power can be run up the cable to the ODU
• 10/100BaseT Ethernet user interface

VSATPlus 3 Ease of Use

The VSATPlus 3 is easy to use

– Setup a node by setting its parameters
• Satellite parameters: Location, Carrier frequencies
• Node parameter: Node #, IP address, CIR/EIR, Primary/Secondary
– Joins the network and downloads key info from the Server
• Node then comes into net
• Automatically synchronizes with the Primary reference
• Then downloads information from the Server
– Node is then One-line it is in the network
• Once a node is on-line bandwidth is then dynamically allocated based upon
traffic rules
• Traffic is routed automatically based upon Routing
• All nodes are automatically updated on the new routing destination
– Monitoring
• The user can monitor and control the network via the web based user
interface
– Adding bandwidth to the network
• Just add a new carrier at the server and all nodes are updated and then can
access this new bandwidth
