1 INTRODUCTION
Iranian Gas Engineering & Development Company (I.G.E.D.C) has intended to perform gas
transmission pipeline and gas compressor stations for transferring of 110 MMSCMD of
natural gas to be fed from South Pars phases 22 ~ 24 from Assalouyeh to Bazargan.
Design of a new 56" gas transmission pipeline from Assalouyeh to Bazargan has been
described under this EPC Contract.
The purpose of this document together with the referred standards, specifications and
project documents is to define the general requirements for Temperature Instruments.

3 PURPOSE
The purpose of this document together with the referred standards, specifications and
project documents is to provide a basis for the identification and standardisation of
information to be used in the Project.
4 SCOPE
02 This document together with the referred standards, specifications and project documents
covers the minimum requirements for field mounted Temperature Instruments to be used
in Fuel Gas Supply Line to the project. This specification shall be used as a basis of design
for preparation of detail engineering and purchase of Temperature Instruments.
5 CODES AND STANDARDS
All work specified shall be in accordance with all applicable sections of the latest editions of
the Codes and Standards (and their current amendments), listed as below:

6 PRECEDENCE
In the event of conflict between the various documents, their order of preference will be as
follows:
- Purchase Order
- Material Requisition
- This Specification
- Other referenced Specifications
- Codes and Standards
7 AMBIENT CONDITIONS
The instruments shall be suitable for permanent operation with environmental conditions
as described in “SITE CONDITION”.
8 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
8.1 Tropicalisation
The instruments shall be tropicalised to eliminate mildew, fungi and other detrimental
effects of a tropical environment, dust and moisture proof, fungus‐growth proof and
resistant to saliferous dust and insect attack. Electronic circuit boards shall be suitably
protected against corrosion and humidity by applying a protective coating, where deemed
necessary by the VENDOR. Packaging shall be suitable for shipment and storage under
tropical conditions.

The material shall be suitable for high temperature condition and the VENDOR shall design
and provide proper material suitable for intended purpose.
8.2 Ingress Protection
All field instruments shall be protected to IP 65 as a minimum and finished to VENDOR’s
standard suitable for the environmental conditions. Particular attention shall be paid to
possible effects of corrosion, vibration, humidity, and extremes of temperatures.
8.3 Signal Transmission
Instrument analogue signal system, except for special signals, shall be:

Measuring units shall be the metric system. All instruments shall read out the following
units:

8.5 Name Plates
All field instruments shall be furnished with a stainless steel corrosion resistant nameplate
permanently fastened with screws and stamped as follows:

8.6 Instrument Housing
In general all analogue instruments for classified area installation shall be Intrinsically Safe
certified to Ex 'ia', 'ib' IIB T4. Where IS equipment is used, barriers shall be galvanic “active”
type.
The digital instruments for classified area installation shall be explosion proof type, Exd IIB
T4.
All instruments shall be suitable to meet the specified climatic conditions. Instrument
enclosures shall be dust‐proof and waterproof to IP 65 minimum and shall be made of high
resistance materials such as low‐copper die‐cast aluminum.
8.7 Instrument Cabling
All electrical or electronic equipment shall be supplied with threaded connection to ISO
M20.
Electrical connection shall be made by means of high quality screw terminal suitable to
accept 1.5 mm2 wires.
8.8 Painting
Painting shall be in accordance with project specifications. As a minimum, the final finish
shall be two coat epoxy suitable for desert environment.
The final colour coat shall be vendor’s standard unless otherwise stated in the individual
data sheets.
All surface preparations and painting shall be completed at vendor’s works.
9 DESIGN REQUIREMENTS FOR TEMPERATURE INSTRUMENTS
9.1 Thermometers
9.1.1 Bi‐metal
Bi‐metallic every angle dial thermometers shall be used for local indication. Where Bi‐
metallic types are not suitable, gas or liquid filled capillary instruments may be used
subject to COMPANY approval. Mercury filled systems shall not be used.

Dial size shall be 150 mm diameter.
Dial material shall be aluminium, unless otherwise specified.
Dial colour shall be white, non‐rusting metal with black figures.
9.1.2 Over Temperature Protection
Temperature elements shall be capable of withstanding intermittent over‐ranging to 1.3
times the maximum scale.
9.1.3 Accuracy
Guaranteed gauge accuracy shall be 0.5% of full scale range.
9.1.4 Standard Ranges
‐50/50, ‐30/70, 0/50, 0/100, ‐20/120, 0/150, 0/200, 0/250, 0/300, 0/400, 50/450,
100/500 oC.
9.1.5 Connection
The thermometer stem shall be 6 mm (1/4”) diameter, with 316 SS material and ½” NPT
male connection.
9.1.6 Thermowells
Refer to paragraph 9.3.
9.2 Resistance Temperature Detector (RTD)
RTD’s shall be platinum preferably 3 wire. Two wire is not permitted.
RTD Pt100 shall comply with BS 1904 and have a resistance of 100 ohms at 0 oC and a
fundamental interval of 38 ohms. They shall be of the grade of accuracy appropriate to
the application.
The use of RTD’s is normally considered for applications where very narrow spans and
high accuracy are required.
RTD extension wires shall be copper and color coded with polyvinyl insulation.
The use of RTD’s shall normally be limited to the range of –200 oC to 750 oC.

9.3 Thermowells
Thermowells shall be constructed in accordance with project standards from one‐piece
316 stainless steel barstock or higher grade alloy.
Minimum line size for thermowell installation shall be 4”.
Flanged type wells shall be 1 1/2” with flange rating as specified on the individual data
sheets (min. 300 lbs).
Well material, nominal well length, rating and tag number shall be stamped on the side of
the flange or on the hex flat for screwed type wells.
When test wells are specified, the thermowell shall be furnished with a plug of knurled
head and tied with a stainless steel chain, but without a thermometer.
9.4 Transmitters
Head mounted temperature transmitters shall be used for all control applications.
Transmitters shall be head mounted programmable HART Smart 4‐20mA output, and shall
be compatible with a variety of temperature sensors including 2, 3 and 4 wire RTD’s,
thermocouples and other resistance and milivolt inputs.
The sensor type is software selectable from the hand‐held terminal (HHT). It provides
either 4‐20 mA standard signal and/or digital signal.
For RTD’s, transmitters shall be mounted locally close to the head in a suitable enclosure.
The input signal shall be galvanically isolated from the output and ground.
Data shall be super‐imposed on the 4‐20 mA line for interrogation and diagnostics
without interruption of the transmitter's signal to the control system. HART protocol shall
be applied for digital communication.
The transmitter shall provide remote communication capability with adequate interface
between the field and control room.
In addition to remote calibration feature by means of remote transmitter interface

device, the transmitter shall be equipped with local span and zero push buttons for
convenient re‐ranging of the transmitter at site.
Reverse polarity protection shall be provided.
Data must be retained in the transmitter when power is interrupted, so that the
transmitter to be functional upon power‐up.
The transmitter shall be of self‐diagnostics type to detect transmitter failure. The default
situation should be alerted to the control system by driving analog signal either bellow
4mA DC or above 20mA DC.
The turn‐on time of the transmitter shall be less than 2.0 seconds after power‐up of the
instrument.
The transmitter accuracy shall be better than ±1% of calibrated span for analog signal
+0.07% of calibrated span for digital signal.
Stability of transmitter shall be +0.1% of reading or 0.1ºC whichever is greater for six
months.
Repeatability shall be better than 0.05 of calibrated span.
Ambient temperature affect shall be better than 0.2% of span.
9.5 Measuring Systems
Thermocouple and resistance thermometer circuits operating high temperature alarms
shall have upscale element burn‐out. Those on low temperature alarms shall fail to down
scale position.
The range of any temperature measuring instrument shall be the VENDOR's narrowest
standard span, appropriate to the application.
10 INSTRUMENTS IN HAZARDOUS AREAS
All electrical apparatus shall be CENELEC certified for use in the specified hazardous area
by:

• JIS in Japan
JIS shall only be accepted subject to CLIENT approval.
11 INSPECTION & TESTING
Inspection and testing procedure of those instruments covered by this technical
specification shall be submitted by the VENDOR at least 6 weeks prior to inspection and
testing for review and approval.
Without imposing any limitation on the above requirements, as minimum, the following
tests and inspections shall be made by the VENDOR.
a) Calibration check
b) Hydrostatic
c) Specification/dimension check
The Purchaser reserves the right to send his inspectors or 3rd party inspectors to the
VENDOR’s shop and his SUB‐VENDORS shop any stage of manufacturing, testing or
preparation for shipment. Purchaser’s approval shall not relieve vendor of his
commitments under the terms of purchases and this specification.
The inspectors shall have the right to access to the areas involved for the construction of
the equipment’s ordered under this specification, and the VENDOR shall give them the
necessary co‐operation.
Type test certificates shall be provided by manufacturer and the manufacturer shall be fully
responsible for carrying it out.
Routine tests shall be conducted in accordance with manufacturer’s standard testing and
inspection requirements as approved by the purchaser
Any special test requirements shall be specified on the individual data sheet.

12 SPARE PARTS AND SPECIAL TOOLS
12.1 Spare Parts
The VENDOR shall provide lists of recommended spare parts, which shall include the
original part numbers with prices for commissioning, start‐up and two years operation. All
spare parts shall be identified individually.
Vendor shall also guarantee that spare parts for any component shall be available for at
least 15 years after order placement.
12.2 Special Tools
The VENDOR shall provide any special tools required for the satisfactory operation and
maintenance of his equipment. A complete list of special tools shall be provided by the
VENDOR at enquiry stage.
13 PREPARATION FOR SHIPMENT
Unless otherwise specified, preparation for shipment shall be in accordance with the
manufacturer’s standard. The manufacturer shall be solely responsible for the adequacy of
the preparation for shipment employed with respect to materials and applications, and
provide materials to their destination in ex‐works condition when handled by commercial
carrier systems.
14 GUARANTEE
The guarantee period for repaired or replaced parts shall be 12 months after start up of
repaired equipment but not more than 18 months after repaired parts and/or equipment
are shipped.
The guarantee period for the remaining equipment its operation is dependent upon the
proper performance of the repaired part shall be extended by the number of days of
fraction thereof that the equipment had been inoperative because of defects. Field labour
charges for works during the guarantee period shall be subject to negotiation between the
purchaser and Vendor.
If any mal performance or defects occur the guarantee period, vendor shall make available
repaired, altered or replacement parts free of any charges whatever direct on the
purchaser’s job site. Vendor shall make available free of charge to the purchaser qualified

representative as he deems necessary to supervise the removal, repair and replacement of
the defective parts in such manner in such manner that the guarantee be minted.
