noticed blood in the child's stool.

 does not have a cough or difficulty breathing
 is not lethargic or unconscious
 is not restless or irritable
 does not have sunken eyes
 drinks normally when offered some water and does not seem thirsty
 has a skin pinch that goes back immediately

4. Kareem is 5 months old. He weighs 5.2 kg. He is 58 cm in length. His axillary
temperature is 37.5°C. he feels hot, the health worker assessed Kareem further
for signs related to fever. It is the rainy season, and the risk of malaria is high.
His mother says he is not eating well. She says he feels hot, and she wants a
health worker to help him. The health worker has done a Malaria Rapid
Diagnostic test (RDT). It is positive for P. falciparum.

The boy:
 is able to drink

 does not have convulsions
 is not lethargic or unconscious

but Neera has stopped feeding well since yesterday. She breastfed a little last
night.Neera is classified as having VERY SEVERE DISEASE.Neera is also
classified as having NO JAUNDICE and HIV UNLIKELYshe doesnot
have diarrhoea.

OR LOW WEIGHT.

received BCG and OPV-0 vaccines at birth and DPT+HIB-1, OPV-1, and
Hepatitis B1 vaccines at six weeks.

Zahur has completed his immunizations and received vitamin A and mebendazole 3
months ago.

 no other classifications.
Does David need urgent referral?
Very good, this is the correct answer. David has a severe classification MASTOIDITIS.

Marcel is a 2-year-old boy. He had one episode of convulsions lasting for about 20
minutes this morning and is not eating well. He has:
 NO ACUTE MALNUTRITION
 NO ANAEMIA
 HIV UNLIKELY
 no other classifications.
Does Marcel need urgent referral?
YES
Very good, this is the correct answer. More than one episode of convulsions during the present
illness or convulsions lasting for more than 15 minutes in children aged 6 months or more are
considered a general danger sign.

Habib is a 9-month-old boy. He is lethargic. He has:


 Diarrhoea with SEVERE DEHYDRATION
 MALARIA
 NO ACUTE MALNUTRITION
 NO ANAEMIA
 HIV UNLIKELY
 no other classifications.
The clinic can provide IV therapy. Does Habib need urgent referral?
NO Very good, this is the correct answer. Habib has a general danger sign which may be
related to dehydration. His only severe classification is SEVERE DEHYDRATION. The clinic
should use Plan C. Since this clinic can give IV therapy, Habib should be given IV therapy at the
clinic.
