The Gwathmey Residence and Studio in Amagansett, New York was designed within a limited budget to make the most of the site and views. The original 1,200 square foot house contained living and sleeping spaces arranged vertically. A year later, a 480 square foot studio was added at an angle, creating a dynamic between the structures. Both buildings use simple geometric forms and cedar siding to blend into the natural surroundings while capitalizing on the open layout and ocean views.
