Discussion and Conclusion

This progress report is from a group of 6 students working on disassembling an internal combustion engine (ICE) for their MEC 657 class. They list the components they have disassembled, including the timing belt, camshaft, crankshaft, and valves. They discuss learning proper disassembly techniques from technicians and the importance of markings on gears. The report acknowledges guidance from their lecturer, Dr. Idris Saad, and technician Mr. Aminuddin Zulkipli. It concludes that the objectives were accomplished by successfully disassembling all engine parts using proper techniques and tools, while following safety precautions.

DISCUSSION

In this task, the engine components that have been disassembled are timing belt, camshaft,
crankshaft, crankshaft, valves, etc. From this task, we can able to recognized and identified the engine parts
involved during the disassembly process. Besides, a proper technique to disassemble has been briefly
explained by the technicians. Hence, we have to learn a proper technique to disassemble the engine parts.

During this experiment, the engine parts involved were crankshaft pulley, timing belts, belts
tensioner, valves, camshaft, cam gear, crank gear and also valve spring. The important knowledge gained
from this session is the marking at the cam gear and crank gear. Furthermore, the usage of the spring valve
clamper has been used to remove the valve from the camshaft.

Lastly, this whole experiment was advised by our lecturer, Dr. Idris Saad and also the automotive workshop
technician Mr. Aminuddin Zulkipli. So, if there any difficulties occurred during the experiment can be
referred to them directly.
CONCLUSION

In a nutshell, the objectives for this task has been accomplished. All parts of the engine
have been successfully disassembled and its function has been recognized as well. The parts of the
engine have been disassembled by using proper techniques and tools. Besides, there are a few
research has been made on the engine parts, the tools used and others. Some safety precautions
need to be considered during this experiment which deals with heavy components and the oil spill.
The safety shoes must be wear to avoid any accidental incident occurred during the experiment.
Moreover, the jacket must be zipped properly to avoid the jacket trapped with one of the
components. These actions need to be considered as a safety precaution to avoid any injuries
occurred during the experiment.
