Stored Energy Calculations for Pneumatic Pressure Test
The stored energy of the equipment or piping system
should be calculated and converted to equivalent kilo-
‘grams (pounds) of TNT (Trinitrotoluene) using the fol-
lowing equations:

When using air or nitrogen as the test medium

Safe Distance Calculations for Pneumatic Pressure Test
The minimum distance between all personnel and the
equipment being tested shall be the greater of
(a) the following:
(1) R = 30m for E $135 500.000 J
(2) R = 60 m for 135500 000 J < E < 271 000 000 J
(3) R = 100 ft for E < 100,000,000 feb
(4) R = 200 ft for 100,000,000 < E < 200,000,000 ft-lb

For systems where E> 271 000 000] (200,000,000 ft-b),
the required distance shall be calculated by Ea (lI).
If the minimum calculated distance cannot be
obtained, analtemative value for Recaiep may be chosen
based on Table III-1 for use in eq. (IlI-1). See also
para. 627.
For example, o prevent lung damage, the distance a
‘pezsonis from the equipment should resultinan Recaten
value of more than 6 m/kgi (15 ft/lb). Note the
structural damage that can occur, Which shall be con-
sidered,
