Activity 3: Speech about greetings

Objective:
- To identify and learn phrases people use when greeting others.

Before you listen

A. Classify the greetings in the box as formal or informal:

Good morning Hello Hi Good night

It’s a pleasure to see you


I’m pleased to meet you How have you been? How is it going?

While you listen

Listen to the speech and write T for True or F for False in front of each statement.

1. To greet someone you can just say Hello. _T_


2. Hello can only be used in formal situations. _F__
3. Good night is only used at the end of an interaction at night. _V__
4. When you meet someone for the first time you can say: It’s a pleasure to see you again! _F__
5. How do you do? is an old-fashioned phrase. _F__
