The following linking words and phrases express the idea of concession:

although/ though, even though, despite, in spite of.

Although, though and even though are followed by a clause. Though can also be used
at the end of a sentence.

E.g.: Even though the outfits were normally designed by men, there was very little
interest in menswear.

Our team lost. It was a good game, though.

In spite of and despite are used before a noun or the -ing form of a verb. They can also
be followed by the fact that + clause.

E.g.: In spite of all her problems, she always looks happy.

Despite applying for many jobs, he is still unemployed.

Despite the fact that he has applied for many jobs, he is still unemployed.
