Concept Paper

The document is a study proposal about producing a non-toxic glue from jackfruit resin, egg white, and honey. It discusses how previous studies found that jackfruit resin can act as an adhesive due to its latex content. The proposal aims to determine the effectiveness of this jackfruit resin glue for adhesion to various surfaces and how long the bond will last. The researchers also want to create a non-toxic alternative to commercial glues that are sometimes inhaled, which can cause brain damage. They will test the glue's durability, drying time, and applicability in experiments.

Background of the Study

Jackfruit (Artocarpusheterophyllus Lam.) tress belong to the family Moraceae. They grow
abundantly in India. Bangladesh, and in many parts of Southeast Asia (Rahaman and others 2010).
The Jackfruit can only be found in the tropical regions, and Philippines are one of them. Studies
have proven Jackfruit resin has the ability to become glue because it contains a substance which
is required to form adhesive, called latex. And also according to Ayurveda, when cooked, honey
becomes equivalent to glue. The proteins in egg products, specifically in the whites, assist with
adhesion and ingredient binding. When they are heated or exposed to acid, they coagulate, causing
the egg product to change from a liquid to a semisolid or sold. When the proteins solidify, they
function as an adhesive, connecting ingredients or food components with each other. They study
focuses only for the production if adhesives using resin from a jackfruit, egg white and honey.

The study will limit only to the making of jackfruit resin as an effective adhesives that will
serve as an awareness to the researchers to learn and improve their skills and values through their
investigations so that we will come up to a successful project which is beneficial not only to the
community but also to the environment Kho and Gotidoc, 2013).

The aim of the study proposal is to determine the effectiveness of jackfruit resin as a glue
in terms of plastic, wood and to determine how long it will remain its adhesion.

The researchers conduct this research to prevent brain damage through sniffing the
commercial glue. According to Karen Gill M.D. Sniffing glue can be life-threatening. Even if the
result isn’t fatal, the risks associated with glue and other inhalants include possible brain damage
and severe breathing problems. Your experience with sniffing glue may be much different than
another person’s. In addition, the effect of one glue sniffing attempt could be more less severe than
earlier or subsequent experiences.
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

According to Capricious Lady (2010) From my final results, I discovered that a mixture of
egg white and honey, when applied to two sides of a broken rock, will not stick together but will
be easily washed away with water. Using honey, although the rock will show signs of tamper,
would be the best way to glue two pieces of rock together.

According to Doyle (2010) The jackfruit latex and rubber tree latex mixtures are possible
eco-friendly and inexpensive solution for sealing common household leakages. The researcher
combined the constituents which are jackfruit latex and rubber tree latex by heating the ingredients
to form a tacky substance that was used as an alternative sealant. Carpenters, plumbers, and
ordinary household members can be the beneficiaries of the said alternative sealant. In the study,
the researcher manipulated the concentrations of the jackfruit latex to determine the optimal
measurement of the said ingredient. Furthermore, the sealant was applied on steel sheets with a
punctured hole and the researcher tested its effect by applying high-pressures until the seal was
broken.

According to Karen Gill M.D. Sniffing glue can be life-threatening. Even if the result isn’t
fatal, the risks associated with glue and other inhalants include possible brain damage and severe
breathing problems. Your experience with sniffing glue may be much different than another
person’s. In addition, the effect of one glue-sniffing attempt could be more or less severe than earlier
or subsequent experiences.

Studies have proven Jackfruit resin has the ability to become glue because it contains a
substance which is required to form adhesive, called latex. According to Ayurveda, when cooked,
honey becomes equivalent to glue. The proteins in egg products, specifically in the whites, assist
with adhesion and ingredient binding. When they are heated or exposed to acid, they coagulate,
causing the egg product to change from a liquid to a semisolid or sold. When the proteins solidify,
they function as an adhesive, connecting ingredients or food components with each other. (McKee
S.& Brown A. 2012)
SYNTHESIS

The researchers found out that the egg white and honey is not applicable to make a glue
because it not durable and easy to clean by water so as the researcher find ways to get the honey
egg white mixture to make it durable so we find some variables that make the glue more sticky so
the jackfruit resin or latex are the one that we think that make the glue so we found out that Jackfruit
resin has the ability to become glue because it contains a substance which is required to form
adhesive, called latex. According to Ayurveda, when cooked, honey becomes equivalent to glue.
The proteins in egg products, specifically in the whites, assist with adhesion and ingredient
binding. When they are heated or exposed to acid, they coagulate, causing the egg product to
change from a liquid to a semisolid or sold. When the proteins solidify, they function as an
adhesive, connecting ingredients or food components with each other. (McKee S.& Brown A.
2012). So the jackfruit resin has a high percentage of making glue because the jackfruit latex and
rubber tree latex mixtures are possible eco-friendly and inexpensive solution for sealing common
household leakages and also the research found out that proven Jackfruit resin has the ability to
become glue because it contains a substance which is required to form adhesive. And also the
researchers find some problems in making glue or making toxic glue they found out that in the
commercial glue some of the people using it in terms of sniffing glue as a alternative drugs.
Because according to Karen Gill M.D.
So, the researchers make another decision that to make a glue out of
jackfruit resin, egg white and honey mixture to make a non-toxic glue that if you sniff there are small
percent of having severe breathing problems.
ABRIDGED METHODOLOGY

The researchers did not have a participant for their research because this is a experimental
research. The material that we will gather is Jackfruit Resin, Honey and lastly the egg white. The
researcher intends to use these materials because they are qualified as a substitute ingredient of
glue. The stickiness of the jackfruit resin is can be used as a glue. So, to add more variable and
more effective chemical free that give, more sticky our glue we will add egg white and honey.
The process that we will do, first is we will make the mixture of our non-toxic glue. The researcher
will conduct some test such as coin durability test, Adhesion time test and the lastly the
applicability test. In the coin durability testing we will attach a paper on the wall then we will put
glue to it because we will put another layer of the paper but the paper that we will stick to it is we
will put a thread with coin that we know the different weight of the coin through that we will test
the durability of it if it is durable than the commercial glue. Let’s move on to the 2nd test the
adhesion time test this test we will put a glue to the paper then we will wait and timer the duration
of the glue to dry. Then we will compare it to the commercial glue if which is the fastest to dry. In
applicability test we will find out on which surface that our glue is compatible by testing it to
paper, wood or in the shoe. By doing this we will know what object will be compatible on the glue
that we will make. The researcher will gather the data through the result of the test such as , time
,the total weight that the glue can handle, and the time of its adhesiveness and also the applicability
or compatibility of the glue to different surface. The data will be subjected to statistical treatment.
