Executive Summary of the internship:
The whole report is divided and copmrises in to two main parts. During the whole period

furniture industryand the brief nature of national furnitures. This section may also
contain a brief introduction of entiredepartments andand also introduction of branch

Furniture Industry trends and in major Countries:
Italy is the world's largest furniture exporter, followed by Germany and Canada. The
United States is the largest importer of wooden furniture followed by Germany and
France.
Pakistan's share in the international wooden furniture market is negligible, although the
country has a history of craft and innovation in the field of wooden furniture.
The wooden furniture industry accounts for 95 percent of the country's total market. The
leading furniture manufacturing areas in Pakistan are Chiniot, Gujrat, Peshawar, Lahore
and Karachi. In terms of exports, Karachi comes first, followed by Lahore and
Peshawar.
Pressure on domestic industry has increased significantly, with other countries such as
Thailand and Korea beginning to export to Pakistan.
At the same time, the high cost of furniture business has threatened the sector as a
whole. Prices of all raw materials used in the furniture industry including woo, foam,
Polish chemicals, color paints and solid tools have risen. On the other hand, timber
production has declined significantly due to uncontrolled deforestation.
As a result, the imported board is used in the manufacture of bedroom sets, which sell
more than others. About 60% of raw materials used in the furniture industry are
imported from China. The imported item mostly used in the furniture industry are plate,
hardware items and glass.
The main buyers in Pakistan for wooden furniture are the United Kingdom, the United
States, Sri Lanka and Gulf countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia,
Oman and Kuwait. The United States mostly buys bedroom furniture. The United
4
Kingdom and Gulf countries import kitchen furniture and office furniture. For example,
British retailer Harrods sells some Pakistani furniture in its outlets.
In Pakistan, the wooden furniture industry can be classified into small scale and cottage.
Unfortunately, these units use obsolete machinery, inadequate tools and manual labor
to manufacture wooden furniture. This means higher costs and weaker production.
There are more than 700 units of wooden furniture in the country. The market is divided
into domestic use and contract markets. The contract market is the unit dealing with
supplies for hotels, restaurants, offices and public utilities.
Chiniot in Pakistan is well known throughout the floor for beautiful wood sculptures and
brass. Its furniture is better quality than other parts of the country.
More than 80 percent of the demand for furniture in the country is met by Chinioti
furniture. The industry, together with handicraft industry, employs about 50,000 people.
People nowadays tend to decorate their homes and prefer spending or saving part of
their annual income on renovation and within their home. Furniture trade is a profitable
business even during a recession where people usually buy furniture to upgrade their
surroundings, or simply buy a new home and need furniture. Many buy furniture to give
the dowry to their daughter's wedding. During the recession, these actions may slow
down but nevertheless remain profitable.
The furniture industry consists of a number of classifications. There are many kinds of
wood and furniture styles. The start-up of these businesses requires intensive capital. If
5
the port has only a few items on the screen, the customer rarely purchases anything
from there. The consumer wants variety and is preferred to go to the large galleries
where there are wide options available.
The first step in establishing this business is that the investor must invest millions of
rupees to make furniture for display. Will gradually begin to get orders from customers.
It is difficult in the early stages of the investor to get orders without offering some items
first to view.
Most furniture galleries do not take orders from customers for items that you may have
seen in a magazine or catalog. In this case, it becomes very difficult to meet customer
expectations, a risk that most furniture manufacturers hesitate to take. The usual market
rule is that the customer can choose from a number of items offered for purchase or
make certain customizations in the selected items. However, there are furniture
manufacturers who work in the market that can make any kind of furniture that
customers wish.
The quality of the furniture depends on the experience of the workers. The very nominal
furniture exhibition requires about 40 workers for different work tasks. The investor must
try to retain the workers by giving them a good salary and additional benefits so that he
can spend time training new workers.
Two years ago a medium-quality bedroom set (three wardrobe doors, a dressing table,
a double bed and a scissor) are used for the cost of Rs25,000-Rs30,000 either from
orange wood or Chico Deco, which is now priced at Rs40,000 -PRs. 60000.
The best quality furniture price rose to PRs 65,000-Rs. 70,000 rupees. 50000. However,
the price also varies depending on the place. Manufacturers of various furniture-related
items almost every year increase their prices with the beginning of the wedding season
creating problems for cash families already starving. In view of the poor financial
6
situation of the majority of buyers, about 70-80 per cent of the city's furniture dealers
exhibited average quality furniture.
A new trend has emerged in deco furniture as makers have now begun using fiber for
innovative exterior designs instead of costly engraving engravings, which saves them
dramatically on cost. The pony set of fiber work (one double bed, dressing table, one
divider and three wardrobe doors) costs PRs. 100,000-PRs. 130,000, while the price of
wood working range ranges from PRs. 250000 rupees. 300000. Buyers who usually
cannot differentiate between fiber and wood are fooled by some traders who sell fiber
furniture at the price of wood engraved work.
Furniture buyers take maximum buyers' pockets on the pretext of rising production
costs, but pay their small wages for their hard work despite the sharp rise in furniture
prices.
Traders say prices have risen by 70-80 percent over the past two years, while Ateeq
Mir, head of the Karachi furniture group, said some time was due to an increase of 30-
40 percent due to higher raw material prices. The price of wood rose to PRs 1,500 per
square foot from PRs 500 after two years, followed by a 20 per cent increase in
chipboard, 40 per cent in paint, 30 per cent in glass, 25 per cent in foam, Cent in the
spring mattress, 100% in the solid plate and 30%.
Over the past three decades or so, Gujrat has emerged as one of the major suppliers of
wooden home furniture in the country.
While some wealthy furniture manufacturers from the city have expanded their
businesses to different cities and established showrooms in Lahore, Islamabad and
elsewhere, many other furniture manufacturers are producing furniture for local brands
with galleries across the country.
The furniture industry in Gujrat has grown larger on the back of domestic sales. Most of
the furniture manufacturers have not yet entered the global market
7
"The economic slowdown or security concerns have not affected furniture sales." The
rise in remittances by Pakistani workers abroad in recent years and the boom in
construction have helped give the furniture industry in Gujrat and elsewhere in the
country a very necessary boost, "he said during a visit. Recently to the city.
Gujrat wooden furniture industry is divided into cottage, small and medium scale
industry. Of the approximately 250-300 units involved in the production of furniture in
the city, less than a degree can be classified as medium-sized producers. Since most
units are still unregistered, it is difficult to estimate the exact volume of their annual
sales. But Ghumman said total sales could easily be around PRs 7 per year.
The vast majority of furniture factories in the city do not have modern machinery or
access to capital to modernize and expand. But obsolete machinery or small-scale
production facilities are not the only problem facing manufacturers. Factory owners
complain of deforested forests, the only source of shesham or Indian rosewood (a type
of hardwood used for furniture).
Amjad Farooq, CEO of National Furniture’s, said: "The furniture industry in Gujrat has
emerged nearly 100 years ago.
"The city with two large rivers - Jhelum and Chenab - and large reserves of the
Shesham jungle on either side were the ideal place to produce furniture." Moreover,
logs from Kashmir, transported through Jhelum, were also readily available.
However, illegal logging over time - without any new plantations to replace trees - has
led to a severe shortage of local hardwoods for furniture manufacturers in the city. In
addition, illiterate and unskilled labor also dwarfs the growth of the industry.
"We have this special gift that wastes our natural resources, whether it is gas, water or
forests," Fayyaz said.
Initially, Gujrat furniture manufacturers produced government and military during the
pre-independence years. Growth was very slow in the first few decades after
independence.
"In the 1980s, the city's costumes have regained momentum," Ghumman said.
8
"The time has come for a large number of Pakistanis to live in the luxurious Gulf where
they went to work, and they also had the disposable income in their pockets to spend on
furniture, which led to the design of a call and establishment of large showrooms in
major cities. Despite the high cost of production due to the use of imported raw
materials and expensive alternative raw materials. "
The furniture industry in Gujrat - just like anywhere else in the country - grew larger on
the back of domestic sales. Most of the furniture manufacturers have not yet entered the
global market.
Therefore, Pakistan's share in the global estimated furniture trade of 25-30 billion dollars
is still insignificant.
Most furniture producers, such as decent furniture, which began to export early in the
late 1960s and were forced to open supply centers in the UK and elsewhere, had to
close their outlets because of the high cost of doing business. The costs of imported
raw materials and expensive energy costs have not allowed them to compete with much
cheaper imports from China and India.
It seems that Chinese furniture has become wonderful in the domestic market because
of its low prices, resulting in the displacement of products from competitors such as
Thailand and other exporters of furniture.
"Our industry has no contact with any global brand or store, which is necessary to boost
exports," Fayez said. He said that "foreign customers" of Pakistani furniture are mostly
Pakistanis abroad who live in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and the
Middle East.
9
Furniture refers to movable objects that are designed to support various human
activities such as sitting (e.g. chairs, mirrors, sofas), eating (tables) and sleeping (e.g.,
family). Furniture is also used to keep things at a working height (such as horizontal
surfaces above the surface of the earth, such as tables and offices), or to store things
(for example, cupboards and shelves). Furniture can be a product of design and is
considered a form of decorative art.

Political:
The political environment is a continuously changing factor for all organizations. The

the retail industry can produce a negative trend on business between the market
players because the set of laws can rapidly change that in turn can effect costs among
other things.
Economic:
The current economic within the country poses problems for retailers even though the
economy may be starting to shift for the better target corporation still must work to buy
back their loses. Consumers have become more careful, and target must adopt to this.
This shift to economic wealth benefits the firms implementing a price leadership
strategy. The changing fuel costs increase a firms costs associated with energy,
transportation and raw materials. The price increase also directly affects the consumers.
Social:

upgrade the technology to meet the requirements of customers by providing services
effectively and efficiently.
Environmental:
Legal:
There are incidences that the target organization was supposed for various law suits.
Among them are the cultural discrimination suit against target corporation, cultural
discrimination law suits, and fines paid for selling outlawed products the company is
trying to hard to save face by paying off all the expenses and fines incurred for the law
suits against it organization work to remove all these issues .

satisfied customer and No of un satisfied customers.
Now the staff give them different rating .they prepare past months sheet and analysis
that how much satisfied and how much un satisfied. Then make cost evaluation each

for better quality production. The exective management team at National Furnitures is

should be in a documentation form which helps the all employees mostly who join
51
newly. National furnitures not only take care of their customers they also have a good
care about their employees and compensate them in a supporting way.
Internship in National Furnitures, I cosider that it was a most appropriate place to gain
knowledge and experience regarding practical life. Either it was a requirement which
assigned by university but I have personally gained a lots of knowledge, skills and
abilities. I also recommend my friends that they must have experience to work with
National Furnitures if they gain and learn something because they provide a good and
learning envirnment for internees.
During the period of internship, I observed that every organization have their own strong
and weak points through which organization can get fame and trust or broke their
goodwill due to customers response. I personally observed that in every organization
whenever you gave no importance and no take care your customer you can never get
fame and customer trust. So, it could not be able to survive without customer trust and
satisfaction. I saw that in NF customer trust them a lot and satisfy with their work that’s
why they became popular among their competetors.
Swot analysis is the best strategy to have the internal and external assessment of any
organization:
Strengths:
52
Highly skilled and experienced staff
High growth rate
Weakness:
Future profitability
Investment in research and dvelopment
Strong competetors in market
Future debt ratings

7.RECOMMENDATIONS:
53
According to my point of view and observation I think it is a duty of experienced
staff that there may be a proper chek of each activities that it has been done or
not in this way they should be more clearer in their aims
The most important point that I have been recommended them that they have
need to make Hr department as an independent and all activities which perfome
other department allow to Hr to do his job in a well manner way
National furnitures have need to conduct training seminars and worshops for the
betterment of employees and for their development
They have need to socialize newly join staff member
